Default PS3 tip

i dunno if anyones ever tried this but i usually keep my ps3 on standby when im not using it. bout 30 mins into a movie the fan would get really really loud.
i tried turning it completly off when not in use. now when i watch movies the fan stays quiet. i dunno if the standby mode has anything to do with the fan but it seems to be working for me.

Actually, I always unplug my PS3 when not in use. I would think this would save it even more power and let the PS3 cool down.

That's strange. I would think that standby mode merely keeps some power to Bluetooth so that the PS3 can be booted using the wireless controller (unless you are also using Remote Play's startup feature, in which case the network adapter also stays 'awake'). I don't see how either one generates any real heat....

I keep mine on standby... always will. All of my other electronic equipment powers down into standby mode. Why shouldn't my PS3?

Besides... I use my equipment and PS3 so much that using the switch everytime would get REALLY annoying. Unplugging all of my AV equipment would prove even more annoying since my PS3 is the only item with a switch.

Never had this issue - but then, I don't switch it off, because then my Harmony won't power it on, I'd have to go back there and switch it back on again - hassle! lol.

Might have to try turning mie off. My HT room gets fairly hot now with the sun being out an all. I did notice an increase in fan noise. Prolly won"t make any difference, since, I think, stand by is just there to let you use bluetooth to turn it on ( or your harmony if you shelled out the 60 bills for the adapter)

Please forgive my old ignorant backside. When you say standby, do you mean you turn it off so that the red light in front is solid and the unit appears to be off in every other aspect? When you say power down completely, are you saying you flip the switch in the back to off? Thank you.
