I would have preferred to stream this first to see but I didn't want to wait. Anyway the movie is good but not something I would ever care to watch again unfortunately. The picture is fantastic so no complaints there, very solid UHD. The special features are surprisingly English friendly. Some are German/Japanese only, but some are actually in English. Good UHD but I would not recommend the blind buy before we get the chance to rent it.

EDIT: Seems uncut to me. It has lined up so far with the Wikipedia plot outline, which has some pretty nasty stuff listed. Last edited by apollo828; 05-12-2022 at 06:20 PM. |

I'm in a similar boat. Having watched it on Shudder, I'll have to let this one sit for a bit. The film has a strand of nihilism that, combined with some janky COVID commentary, just didn't sit right with me. But, it was different, certain parts did work out of the gate, and it did kinda feel like 28 Days Later on steroids at times. That's something about films like Mayhem that drove me nuts. You have this wild virus that connects you with your most disgusting, most base instincts. In that film, people are doing things like having sex with their clothes on! (I guess Samara Weaving wasn't down to get nekkid.) In this one...well, you'll see. (Granted, I suppose the virus is supposed to just crank up your S&M side well beyond 11. I can't imagine enjoying some of the things in this film, even if I somehow did give myself over to whatever I thought might feel the slightest bit good.)

Really liked this and am glad I opted for the 4K rather than streaming it. Had no issues with the disc skipping or stopping as some have reported.
It's sure to be every 15-year-old horror fans favorite film of the year but the sexual violence makes it hard to recommend to anyone but adults. It's the kind of goopy, gory, grimy good time that my teenage brother would love but not the kind of thing I can ever recommend. It's extreme and gory as hell with a nice unhinged nihilism, sure the ending doesn't quite land and there are only so many places it can go after the early extremes but it's a relentless journey of depravity and if you enjoy more extreme fare it's a winner. |

This movie will also be getting a 4K Blu-ray release in France by ESC Editions this November.
https://www.amazon.fr/Sadness-4K-Ult...B5KV54XV&psc=1 Knowing how many of the local French distributors are, don't expect English subtitles at all, just French only. |
