Germany The Sadness 4K UHD (2021)

Looks like it is getting a mediabook and steelbook from Capelight in April 2022:

https://collectors-junkies.com/the-s...abook-edition/

Theatrical and uncut. Can't imagine what was cut.

Maybe its a bit lost in translation. It is the Theatrical/Uncut Version. Not two different Cuts.

Originally the german rating board FSK didn't want to give the uncut version a FSK 18 rating for theatrical release, and in the, I think, third try capelight got the FSK 18 rating for the uncut version. So the german theatrical Version is the normal uncut version.

It is still possible that the home theatre release does not get the FSK 18 in its uncut form, as the rating rules a bit different for theatrical and home theatre releases. So be aware that there might coming two different Cuts for home theatre... but for now that situation is not cleared. As far as I know capelight did not get the DVD/BD/UHD age certification, yet.

Ah, thanks for the additional detail. I didn't see it in the theater, since, well, it never came to any local theater, but I remember the buzz it was getting when going through the festivals. It was Walter Chaw's review that piqued my interest:

https://www.filmfreakcentral.net/ffc...e-sadness.html

Probably not something I'll be watching with the wife, though.

The uncut version has been denied a FSK18 rating for home video (home video is stricter than cinema) and Capelight is therefore going for SPIO/JK now: https://www.schnittberichte.com/news.php?ID=18215

Meaning, that it might be even harder to find/import this. If I lived abroad, I'd sneak in an order asap at any rate. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Dammit FSK, I thought them guys don't censor movies very much nowadays!?
I mean, if Mortal Kombat (2021) can be 100% uncut on video (and it's a very gory movie obviously), I can't see how The Sadness would be anymore violent than that movie. Hell, Hellboy (2019) and The Suicide Squad both are very gory movies and both are just rated FSK-16 over there in Germany, no cuts made neither!

It sounds like it was also cut for the cinema release, as well.

I always get confused by this, but do Amazon.de sell one or both categories of SPIO/JK films before indexing? In other words, could you pre-order and they would stock it and send it out, unless and until it went on the index?

The Theatrical Release got a FSK18 rating, without any cuts. The rules are stricter on home media releases, then on theatrical, because its easier to check that the rating is followed. Isn't the first time a movie got FSK rating in theatres, but none for home media.

I think the harder SPIO category isn't avaible on Amazon.de because the regulations for that rating are stricter than for the lesser SPIO Rating. But I think as long as it is pre-orderable they will ship it. At least I do not know any instance that an amazon shipement was canceled just because of the later rating. But, after it got a FSK in theatres, it might just get the lighter SPIO rating.

The FSK doesn't make cuts. They just say "we rate it ..." or "we don't give the desired rating".
The rating is not always just on the gore, but the overall message of the movie, and how people can identify with the deliverer of messages.

No, just as MrBrown said, the uncut version got FSK18 for cinema, but the same rating was denied for the same uncut version for home video, because different rules apply.

re. the SPIO/JK version being available, all I know is that I tend to find it annoying to get my hands on "worse than FSK18" even here in Germany, since less shops will sell it. Back in the days, brick and mortar used to be my choice (where I explicitely had to ask for it then), but I honestly can't remember the last time I bought a movie in a store.

I know at leats one shop that also seels movies like Braindead. But it's harder to find smaller local stores at all. too much got eaten by the big sellers, like Media Markt, Saturn etc. and they do not go the hassle route for indicated movies. The Problem is that they have to secure that indicated movies could not be accidentally placed on the areas of the shop, thats accessable by minors. And that hassle is more expensive to solve than just not selling them anymore.

Smaller Expert or ElectronicPartner retailers used to order it for me in the past. Nowadays, I do remember ordering such stuff from Austria. Other than being hard to come by, those usually being more expensive is annoying as well though.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll receive my copy from Capelight in this case.

This movie is great. The whole theater laughed at the security guard's anime titty phone lockscreen.

Can't find anywhere willing to export this to the UK due to not being able to prove I'm not two nine year olds standing on each others shoulders in a trenchcoat, anybody got any ideas?
Or any idea of the likelihood of this getting an uncut release somewhere else??

Maybe it'll wind up on eBay from German shops closer to its release date?
