Why are you looking to get rid of the 94TXH? It works fine for all movies even the Condemned. The only problem is you get 5.1 lights on some 7.1 movies. The movies are still coming through and being decoded as 7.1 it's just that the lights aren't showing 7.1 due to the way a few 7.1 movies are encoded. It's just an issue with the lights it's still decoding it as 7.1.
BTW people have reported the same "light" problem with Onkyo and Yamaha receivers with the same movies. It just that these few movies are coded in a non-standard way. There's really nothing wrong with your Pioneer. Last edited by gear; 06-10-2009 at 10:49 PM. |

Now I understand. If you like the sound of the Yamaha better then you may try to look for a more recent model. The 3200 came out around 1998 and a newer Yamaha will have more features like HDMI switching etc...

Yamaha has the problem as well, but it seems that all these receiver's only have the problem on 5 or 10 movies that are encoded in a non-standard way that the manufacturers did not account for. Since it's only the lights, it really doesn't matter to me. The lights are so tiny I never look at them anyway. I just pull up the heads up display on the PS3 that shows 5.1 6.1, or 7.1 to see the decoding. As long as the sound comes out the back speakers then I really don't care about the tiny lights.

My ps3 info bar shows 6.1 on T2 but the receiver shows 5.1. Here's the deal, alot of these 6.1/7.1 mixes are showing 5.1 on receivers because the flags for the extr channel/s aren't being picked up. If 6.1 isn't an actual discrete true 6.1 then it has a flag for the extra channel for stuff like 6.1 es/ex mixes. This is the case with T2. Sometimes the flags aren't read properly and thus that extra channel isn't picked up. In this case just pick an ex dsp on your receiver.

Sorry to give life to such an old thread but I am having a similar issue with Rambo on Blu-Ray as well. I am only getting 5.1 DTS-HD MA playback when I should be getting 7.1. Here's the odd thing, it USED to work...I previously had PowerDVD8 Ultra installed but I recently did the upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 and got PowerDVD9 Ultra. My only other DTS-HD MA 7.1 Blu-Ray is 3:10 To Yuma and that plays back all 8 channels. Any ideas? Thanks!
