Sounds like first generation HDMI receivers like the Pioneer and the Onkyos have problems with the ES flag in the DTSHR/DTSMA signals.

Yamaha has the problem as well, but it seems that all these receiver's only have the problem on 5 or 10 movies that are encoded in a non-standard way that the manufacturers did not account for. Since it's only the lights, it really doesn't matter to me. The lights are so tiny I never look at them anyway. I just pull up the heads up display on the PS3 that shows 5.1 6.1, or 7.1 to see the decoding. As long as the sound comes out the back speakers then I really don't care about the tiny lights.
