That cover is terrible.

Glad to see it's coming to 4K though.

One of five Hitchcock 4Ks releasing on 5/10, all of their covers look about the same.
Wish they just used some of the original artwork for the covers.

Ugh, what a dreadful cover. How do people who do work like that - or approve work like that - get jobs?

Graphic designer here. The bolder part above is 100% the point. I NEVER get final approval on a project and most of the time the original concept belongs to someone else. Most projects are like 50% trying to conceptualize what some non creative person is seeing in their head and 50% outright copying something they saw someone else do. It’s a cruel reality of my profession that the people who make the final call rarely have any taste or an artistic eye.

So anyway, I wouldn’t blame the designer. I’m sure they were doing their best with what they were told they had to make. And their first 5 (most likely superior) drafts were rejected.

Thanks - I respect your take on it. And yeah, no way for me to know if this was the designer’s best work, or if this was a directive from some hack who thought this is how the cover should look. But regardless, the person who ultimately approved it, owns it. And this one’s crap.

Mister_Kidd, a bit off topic here, but do you have any insight into the iridescent/rainbow-fade phenomenon that’s ubiquitous on poster/cover art these days? (Thankfully the Hitchcocks have been spared.) How did it start? Why does it persist? Will it ever end?

Have watched this and it is a superb presentation. Lovely grain and grey scale and excellent use of HDR in the highlights.. Checkout how Mrs Sutton's jewelry sparkles!

Wondering how the Statue of Liberty matte painting scenes would have looked in color:

Watched this last night and I thought it looked outstanding. You never know what you'll get with Universal these days but for this release they seemed to show restraint when turning the dials on their "tasteful DNR" applicator. That's good!

As for the movie itself, while the performances certainly show their age I was amazed at how fresh it felt considering it is damn well near 100 years old. The way it is shot and the subject matter felt more contemporary than a lot of new films. Made me wonder what kind of films Hitchcock would make today as the fifth column is now essentially in the mainstream. It was funny and alarming to think that the villains in this film could run for office today and very well likely win!

I refer to the beautiful matte painting work they did for the movie:

http://thebigpicturemagazine.com/fou...itchcock-1942/

I was wondering how nice it would look in technicolor. So I posted an image of the mattepainting from the movie Mame (1974) which shows a matte painting in similar angle.

I know what you posted, it just doesn't have anything to do with DVDbeaver's questionable screencaps. lol
