Check your wires on the receiver and the speakers, the positive and negative's may be touching somewhere and your Onkyo will shut down and go into protection mode if this is occuring....

+1. You've definitely got something wired wrong and it's going into protection mode.

Yeah, that would be real quick, unless you had tried that already?

Did you physically look and check to make sure none of the positive and negative wire threads after you tied the speaker wire back into the terminals for both the speakers and receiver were not in some way touching?

So now where it was working fine before the speakers plugged in- it's not even doing that? If not, unplug it for a few minutes, plug it back in WITH NOTHING CONNECTED TO IT and turn it back on. If it doesn't reset- contact the seller or Onkyo in my opinion.

He should be doing it without ANYTHING plugged into it to make sure that's not the issue. You are doing that, right? If it works, then start adding speakers- make sure you're connecting them appropriately. I am guessing you either had a short or were accidentally bridging the connections.

Like people above said touching speaker wire (each other or back of Onk) can cause it to shut down. Sometimes that would put my old Onk into standby.

So the standby is on and the lcd is blank? Nothing on it that is maybe just dimmed? Try letting it sit for a few hours without attempting to power it on and maybe try another wall outlet.

I would call Onk support .. they are not too great when it comes to actually supporting hardware failures and issues but they might be able to give some insight.
