Default Receivers With Video Processing Issues(info please)

Im concerned with purchasing a Receeiver that may end up having video processing issues, Im looking at purchasing my first receiver and have read many reveiws and dont seem to have a handle on whats worth what.

So if you would please give your opinions on receivers to avoid because of video issues, as I said I am new to this so I have a few questions......

1-if I want to run HDMI from cable receiver to a/v receiver to enjoy the audio will this effect video quality(hd programming through cable) if avr has poor processing?
2-If avr has poor video processing will it effect viewing blurays?

If possible help me understand what matters & if the video processing does make a major difference please let me know what avr to avoid because of video issues.

thanks

I have the Pioneer Elite SC-05, and it "ignores" video sourced through HDMI entirely, passing it untouched through the receiver to the display. It's one of the things I really like about this receiver (among a LOT of other things).

It has a standard Faroudja chip for analog video sources upconverted. Can't really comment on it as I do not upscale at all with my receiver.

Most AVRs have "pass through" which let the video through unaltered.

@ OP: my Onkyo 706 can be set to "through" that way the video is unaltered to or from my HD cable, panasonic BD player, Pioneer BD player & PS3. You can also set it to scale to 1080p 1080i and so on.

Don't let your AVR process anything but audio , if you BitStream like I do.

thanks guys.....am I correct then in understanding that this video processing issue is mostly if your trying to use the avr as a way to upscale a signal say through rf connection or commponet( something other than HDMI) & will not effect bluray either?

If so then for my purpose the video processing shouldnt be such an issue as I will be using HDMI, am I correct?

Thanks

Hi there. One of the "negatives" I read about my Elite SC-07 was just what Rob J states...the inability of the Elite line to upconvert to 1080p. For me personally though, I don't see that as a negative at all. Since I'm using HDMI on all my sources having the Elite SC-07 pass the signal through directly to my display from my PS3, DVR, 360 & Oppo without messing around with it is exactly what I want it to do. If I want to upconvert a standard DVD then that's what my Oppo player is for.

If you want to hear some incredible "conversion" of an audio source then you will not go wrong with a Pioneer Elite AVR.

Im really leaning towards this pioneer elite vsx-03 as my first ever receiver,

I know speakers need to be auditioned however what speakers would you recommend most of my budget will go towards the receiver so I hope to get some value with my speakers

For like $1200.00 I got my Klipsch towers and center channel, and I must say I think they perform very well! I got an Axiom sub for free so that doesn't count if I didn't that would have set me back bout $800.00 alone.
