Default Receiver upgrade? 2 channel setup?

I currently have a Hitachi SR-2004 but think to get true HD audio I need to upgrade to something more recent. Im planning on doing a total overhaul, but in parts rather then all at once. I plan to spend as much as needed to get the best I can thats reasonable, so please dont say I need $14,000 B&W speakers and receivers. I use a ps3 and plan to get a Pioneer Ultra Kuro. What would be a good receiver for this? I want something that will give me excellent results but lets put a cap at this about $2000. I will currently just run two fronts but will expand up to 7.1 if I desire. This will be used for games and blu-ray/DVD. Thank you.

Or what would be a the best receiver for a 2 channel setup as my space may not be able to support 7.1 but It could do a 5.1 but there may be distortions due to the small area. So im thinking a 2 channel may be my best bet and just get some really killer speakers along with a receiver that is intended for HD 2 channel.

Read the comment of others in The Master List of Receiver Owners Thread. Also check Post #2 for professional reviews.

P.S. Those $14,000 B&W speakers are junk. You need Genesis or Nola speakers for over $150,000.

I would suggest going and auditioning recievers and speakers. Is your cap $2K just for the receiver or for both receiver and speakers??

I would suggest looking at the Marantz 6003/ 7002, Denon 2309/ 2809/ 3810, Pioneer Elite VSX-03/ SC-05, Perhaps the Integra recievers, Or go with seperates and get a Pre-pro and an Amplifier.

Speakers, Man, that is really gonna be personal tastes. There are lots of MFGs, what speakers have you heard that you like? PLEASE for speakers, get out of Best Buy to do your auditioning.
