Default Blue Hawaii (1961) (Paramount Presents) coming from Paramount

Blue Hawaii 4K Blu-ray

Quote:
Newly restored in 4K Ultra HD with HDR-10 and Dolby Vision, Blue Hawaii will arrive on 4K UHD Digital for the first time on June 21. Blue Hawaii will arrive on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray as part of the Paramount Presents collection later this year.

This movie critic correctly predicted three weeks ago that Blue Hawaii would appear on digital retailers in 4K on June 21 so it's obvious the source for their information is Paramount.

I not only love the songs in this film (especially the goofy ones) but I stayed at the Coco Palms for a week in 1979 when I was 18 years old (which just happened to be the drinking age). It was a wild and crazy week and watching this film brings back great memories of that incredible place...

The Twitter post (there are 2) also mentions King Creole. Maybe we will see that soon on 4K disc as well ala Fatal Attraction.

So this is the first Elvis movie on 4K? I would have put good money on Jailhouse Rock or Viva Las Vegas winning that, but certainly not going to complain if we are going to see more of The King in 4k!

Two new interviews with Paramount's Senior Vice President of Asset Management (Andrea Kalas) about the the restoration of King Creole and Blue Hawaii:
  1. An episode of the Movie Geeks United podcast:
    Quote:
The Movie Geeks welcome Andrea Kalas, the Senior Vice President of Asset Management for Paramount Pictures, to discuss the new restoration of Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii, as well as her previous efforts to restore Elvis' King Creole.

  2. SlashFilm interview:
    Quote:
Paramount Archivist Andrea Kalas On Spiffying Up Elvis Presley's Blue Hawaii For The 21st Century
    https://www.slashfilm.com/905614/par...ury-interview/

In the SlashFilm interview, she says Paramount has recently discovered something and it seems to be related to Blue Hawaii and it will be a "surprise":

Quote:
For a movie like this, I'm kind of curious in terms of supplemental material or cut scenes, was there anything left from the filming of interest in that regard?

There's one thing ... I don't know if I can tell you about it, actually.

Oh.

Maybe a surprise coming up later.

Okay.

I'll leave it at that. There's something we discovered recently that maybe we'll be revealing later. I don't know. I never know what I'm supposed to talk about. So I'm going to just say that.
Quote:
Interesting. Well, I'm really curious about what the thing that you can't reveal is, and I hope that we'll be hearing about that soon.

I'm sure you will. I'm sure you will. So, a little teaser for you. Sorry.
I wonder if this is why the disc releases of Blue Hawaii won't come out until later this year?

This movie is to me, the ultimate Elvis film and is by far, my favorite he ever did. Great to hear it's finally going to get a physical media release later this year - day one for me!

That is so epic that you actually stayed at Coco Palms - Kudos to you Rzzzz! You're THE MAN! Any respectable tikiphile would go insane for the opportunity to have that experience. BTW, that linked article was so sad. What a disgrace they let that property go. Sadly, most of those Hawaiian/Tiki themed resorts and bars have been swept aside in the name of "progress".

Press Release:

Quote:
Newly restored in 4K Ultra HD, Elvis Presley’s beloved 1961 classic BLUE HAWAII arrives as part of the collectible Paramount Presents line on both 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray™ for the first time ever November 15, 2022!

Enjoy this rollicking Technicolor musical in ultra-crisp 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision™ and HDR-10. Fully restored from the original 35mm camera negative, BLUE HAWAII looks more spectacular than ever with every colorful costume and vivid Hawaiian background brought to life. The first of three films that Elvis shot in gorgeous Hawaii, BLUE HAWAII celebrated the brand-new exotic state and features the massive hit song “Can’t Help Falling In Love,” which was certified platinum.

For the restoration, the original negative was scanned in 4K/16bit, however the opening title sequence was very grainy because it originally used duped film. That sequence was completely rebuilt using the original film elements from the Paramount library. Brand new text overlays were created for a truly spectacular opening sequence befitting this delightful film.

The Paramount Presents BLUE HAWAII release includes the film on both 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc™ and on Blu-ray, as well as access to a digital copy of the film. The Blu-ray additionally includes the original theatrical trailer and the following new bonus content:
  • Commentary by historian James L. Neibaur
  • Blue Hawaii Photo Scrapbook - Contains high-res images from the Paramount archives, including behind-the-scenes shots

Bad news guys. If you haven't heard, the credits were very poorly redone. And Paramount is standing by the new job, so it looks like the OG opening isn't going to be used anymore.

Not a fan of Paramount lately. I think I'd rather buy an old DVD that wasn't tampered with (if one exists) than buy something that completely changes the way a movie was originally seen. IMHO, Paramount is ruining original films with some of their changes.
