$80+ million. Kiddies love the yellow twinkies.

Minions is taking all the big screens at my theatre away from Elvis.

I saw Elvis twice today in Dolby Atmos before Minions takes over.

I was in a public bathroom at Adventureland in Disneyland, needing to use a toilet...this was in one of the small almost hidden bathrooms -- one stall...and a father was using it with his three sons, the youngest of which was imitating the latest Despicable Me commercial yelling, "Bee-do! Bee-do! Bee-do!" and the kid just would not go, despite encouragement from his dad. This goes on for a bit, quite a while actually -- long story short, I'd give up the nation's nuclear codes to avoid even three seconds of Minions.

Oh, previews start tomorrow for this thing? 6/30-1/4? Scrooge McDuck doesn't have a money bin big enough for the money this is about to rake in.

Canada Day is this Friday, many Canadians are off so it should give a little added boost to the box-office.

For comparison, DM2 released 4th of July weekend in 2013 and did $83M domestic OW.

Minions released the week after the July 4th holiday in 2015 and did gangbusters with $115M domestic OW.

The Minions IP has only grown more in popularity in the years since then. Lots of those kids are older now, but the franchise keeps growing their fanbase with little ones and the families that go to take them to the theaters. Universal theme parks especially have kept Minions relevant with their attractions and merch.

The marketing that I’ve come across over the last month or so has been heavy, between cable ads and YouTube/streaming platform ads.

I’d be shocked if $65 million is the best Universal could pull on a 3-day, let alone an extended 4.5 day weekend with early afternoon Thursday screenings. This is the “family” movie of the entire summer, so it’s possible we could see triple digits when the actuals come out next week.

My wife and I are seeing Mr Malcolm’s List instead, a movie so unanticipated it doesn’t even appear to have its own thread lol. Wonder how much that will make? 2 million?

My theatre has Flashback Cinema and they put those movies on the smallest screens so it's not even worth it.

Only time they had them on giant screens was during covid when there were no new movies so I got to see Goonies, Lost Boys, Twister on the biggest screens and Twilight and Mean Girls on a medium sized screen.

I've seen Raiders and Temple the last two weeks and it's been totally worth it.
