Arrow Expendables to have both R & PG13 cuts...Rambo 5 Tones it Down

Some interesting news. It's interesting that they may do a PG13 and an R cut up front. It would insure both versions get released on blu-ray. I wouldn't expect Rambo to keep the pace with the last and understand that the violence fit the story.

Here's the article.

Quote:
While I was on the set of The Expendables, I spoke with producer Avi Lerner and picked his brain in a thousand ways. One of the questions I asked him was whether Rambo V - if it gets made in the first place - will be as violent and brutal as Rambo (2008). Avi Responded with a resounding NO, saying that the story in Burma had to be tackled that way, with extreme and brutal violence so that it portrayed an important aspect of what that story is about. He also told us that they lost at least half the audience for that film with such a hard R, so neither The Expendables nor the Rambo sequel will be as brutal. He did, however, say that it is not an "if" but a "when." Rambo 5 is definitley coming to theaters near you.

Also interesting, there will be both PG-13 and R rated cuts for The Expendables and they will test each to decide which to release. The Expendables is costing about 80 million dollars, thanks to so many real explosions, the star cast, and everything else that goes into making an action flick. The studio wants this film to be a big hit and Avi is hoping to turn it into a franchise - including whoever doesn't die in the first film in subsequent films. My money is on Dolph dying.

That's the good news. Even if the studio releases a PG13, we'll still get the R movie.

True enough. I think the point is many people think the better versions of these types of films will have the R rating. Can you imagine Rambo 5 being rated G? He doesn't kill people. He just shares his feelings with them and takes them to the circus.

-The Final Scene of Rambo 5 (G Version)-

Rambo: I don't really like you!

Bad Guy: Fair enough.

- Roll Credits -

Well, whichever way works, whether it be PG-13 or R. I'll still see it.

That would be awesome. Rambo 5: Rambo vs Curious George.

BRAVO!!!

Looks like I won't be watching this crap, though. It seems stupid to cast both Statham, Li, and Stallone together in one action flick. I'm betting it'll suck hard.

After Rambo 08, there's no turning back for me. I was hoping with the awesome cast, we could get a definitive, no holds barred, bloody ass theatrical release, not some lame "lets give the audience the toned down version, and save the manly cut for home viewing!" marketing strategy. Well there's still a chance we'll get the R-rated version, which is really the only one I'm interested in seeing. You cant put together this group of actors and put out a "safe" action movie. It just isnt right imo.

I'd pay to see that, only because I very much so dislike that Curios George character and would like to see him blown half to hell by Rambo.

I prefer a R rating for Expendables. Anything less than an R rating is too civilize screen time for the ensemble action stars.

It's a shame, but that's exactly what will happen. Just give me an uncut BD release.
