Hmmm, can't say I'm interested in a live-action Thor movie - but I'm willing to be won over with a good trailer.

Liked the actor in Star Trek - he did a great job - he achieved being heroic and sentimental in 5 minutes - not too shabby. His size was obvious as he walked down the cooridoors next to the captian.

This is positive news.

This casting has been CYMBOL approved!

What I find funny is an Aussie and a Brit are playing Norse gods. haha. I wonder if the Scandinavian fan base is up in arms.

And...I've always "liked" Thor, just not quite enough to collect his titles. But, I'm really looking forward to this...as well as Captain America, as long as the rumors of them potentially F'ing him up aren't true.

*edit* Innocent question...did jasonbird change his name or is greenscar the new go-to comic-films guy?

I imagine no moreso than when a Brit plays a 'Merican part I suppose...?

What rumors might those be?

Jasonbird was eaten alive by Greenscar... and somehow is still managing to take control of the body from time to time.

Having said that, I think Kevin Feige has been a genius thus far in creating the Marvel Universe onscreen (at least the one's he has control over).
Perhaps it's because of two reasons. First, I don't like Thor because he really isn't that original of a character. He's a real Norse god for crying out loud. And secondly, because I don't think Hemsworth is big enough/ripped enough to play the role (even after the intense workouts he'll probably go through). I'd rather have seen James Preston Rogers as Thor.

On a side note, making kingpin black was fine, as I like Micheal Clark Duncan, and Fury is OK because it's Samuel. In fact, I would only approve of Cap being black IF Samuel played him.

I like Samuel.

I really don't think they'll mess with the main characters at all. Heck, they're bringing back Donald Blake for Thor and he had been written out of the comics a long time ago (I believe they're bringing him back in the comics in anticipation). They seem to be staying as close to the originals as possible for these movies (the one's by Marvel Studios) because they already know it works.

Here's the old Thor thread with some news that should really put at ease any Thor fans that Branagh is really getting into the Marvel Thor!

Hiddleston was talking about Loki and is working on preparing physically for the role:

Quote:
Actor Tom Hiddleston originally auditions for the title role in Marvel's upcoming "Thor" movie, but ended up being cast as Loki, the arch-nemesis of Thor.

"Loki's like a comic book version of Edmund in King Lear, but nastier," he told DailyMail. "Loki's skilled in black magic and sorcery. He's a shape-shifter and has all sorts of super powers from the dark arts. He can turn clouds into dragons, things like that."

"Thor" begins filming in January, so between now and then, Hiddleston has to get in shape. "Ken [Branagh] wants Loki to have a lean and hungry look, like Cassius in Julius Caesar. Physically, he can't be posing as Thor."

I don't like the whole magic idea for Loki. Sure, it was in the comics, but like Favreau said for the Mandarin, I think it'd be too unbelievable. This is one of the problems I have with Thor. His tale's too mythical. How would MARVEL tie this into an Avengers movie with all the magic and sorcery? Perhaps a good trailer for this would put my concerns at ease.

Here's the entire article:

Quote:
Tom Hiddleston played the bad guy all the time when he was a kid. 'Me, my sisters and my cousins would put these plays on at the end of the summer and I would always be Captain Hook,' Tom told me.

Such background will come in handy when he plays the daddy of baddies, Loki, the arch-nemesis of Thor, the Norse thunder god.

Kenneth Branagh will direct Thor, which has a budget of at least $150 million (probably more) for the Marvel Comic people, with Chris Hemsworth in the title role and Tom as Thor's evil half-brother Loki.
Tom Hiddleston

Tom Hiddleston: Getting ready to look like a god

Tom initially auditioned and then screen-tested to play Thor. But Branagh, who knows him well from the Wallander TV detective dramas and from when they shared the stage in the Donmar's Ivanov at Wyndham's, decided his talent would be better harnessed playing Loki.

Often, the villain of the piece has the best lines. Look at what Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger did with the Joker, and what fun Alan Rickman had baiting Bruce Willis in Die Hard.

'Loki's like a comic book version of Edmund in King Lear, but nastier,' Tom observed.

How much nastier? 'Well, Loki's skilled in black magic and scorcery. He's a shape-shifter and has all sorts of super powers from the dark arts. He can turn clouds into dragons, things like that.'

Between now and January, when Thor begins shooting, Tom has to keep himself fit and healthy.

'Ken wants Loki to have a lean and hungry look, like Cassius in Julius Caesar. Physically, he can't be posing as Thor.'

Before then, he will shoot more Wallander films, but right now he's about to go before the cameras in the Cranford Christmas special opposite Judi Dench. Jonathan Pryce will play his father, while Jodie Whittaker plays the lass his character (William Buxton) desires.

By the way, one of the toughest things about Thor will be to get the Shakespeare-meets-Dr-Who dialect from the comic books ('Let foes beware! We strike for earth - and the realm eternal!') to work on the big screen.

It certainly helps explain why actors such as Tom have been cast: they can speak proper, you know?

I believe GreenScar and JasonBird had a battle to the death for "go-to comic-films guy" and hulk avatar usage and it would appear that JasonBird did not infact like GreenScar when he made him angry. He is either dead or has been trapped in the Phantom Zone, nobody really knows.

Kevin Feige Says THOR's Chris Hemsworth is Immensely Watchable and Engaging

Quote:
If Star Trek writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were given the opportunity of another shot with Chris Hemsworth who played Kirk's father in the new Star Trek incarnation, Kurtzman said, "As long as he plays the part, there could be an entire 'Star Trek' movie devoted to the heroic adventures of George Kirk."

So what makes this young Australian actor so lovable and in demand? He came out of nowhere and has managed to land some major roles including Kirk's father, the lead in THOR, Jed (previously played by Patrick Swayze) in the Red Dawn remake and more.

Marvel President Kevin Feige thinks he knows the answer, "As new actors make their way into feature films, it is a rare thing to find someone who is not only immensely watchable and engaging, but can also represent a timeless and key character from the Marvel universe in such a compelling way. We have been watching Chris hone his craft over the last several months and due to his persistence and talent he rose above everyone else embodying the actor we were looking for."

We saw him briefly in the first 10 minutes of Star Trek in May, we'll have to wait quite a while for THOR, not scheduled to open until 2011.

He's one to keep an eye on, LA Times included him in their Calendar section as one of the top 10 rising names in Hollywood.

Can't wait to see how badass he is as Thor. 2011 sounds so damn far away. But before you know it, we'll have a teaser. Maybe next summer in the previews before Iron Man
