I haven't even seen the movie yet. I'm big into blind buying especially with the higher price of BD. This is a rental for me.

Sure. Why not?

getting Tale of the Black Freighter for $5 with it makes too much sense.

Yes, for me it's hands down the best film of 2009 (thus far).

I am unsure yet. I loved the film, but I don't like that there's only the director's cut on the blu. I am going to wait and see if there's more information following the release of this for the ultimate cut. If the specs are better on that one, I shall wait for it (and avoid double dipping). If they aren't, then I shall be getting myself another blu for my birthday in September (and hopefully at a reasonable price).

F'n Ay YES! Day one, great movie can't wait for the extras and I expect them to have some serious BD-Live content. When will movies really start to take advantage of BD-Live content like it was promised? Sorry, that should probably be in another thread!

Many have answered this already, but I thought I might elaborate. In the GN, the "Tales of the Black Freighter" are woven throughout the story, and not just that, but the character who is reading the tale and the person who runs the newsstand -- these become fleshed out characters, and these faces haunt us during the climactic events. The "Black Freighter" tale itself is a mirror of the possible eventual fate of the antagonist of the movie, a counterpoint on the masks themselves (the fine line between hero and villain, the way moral absolution can drive one insane when the world does not behave in a moral fashion).

Now the key here is that Zach Snyder shot all the newsstand scenes, the "ins and outs" from these and the film you all knew and loved (or not loved). So the "complete" Snyder version of the Watchmen is going to be this ultimate set coming late next year. I'm not buying the theatrical or the "director's cut", I'm waiting for the whole shebang. Not that I frown on anyone buying whatever version they want -- for my money, the opening credits alone are worth $30.00, everything after that is gravy.

I was thinking of waiting for the uber-edition later this year, but the news of the steelbook swayed my decision to yes; and it will be a blind buy. I guess I'm a marketing sucker.

It will be the super-ultra-deluxe edition for me later as well. I would also STRONGLY discourage blind buys on this unless you have read and love the comic. This is far, far from an action superhero movie. I saw a dad take his six year old to see this and felt he should be locked up afterwards. I loved it. A friend of mine loved it. Another friend thought it was the worst movie he ever paid money for.

I very much enjoyed the film. It's an often-watch for me after I buy.

I have not seen but plan on buying. Maybe not day one but definitely sometime.

I've really kinda gotten away from day one purchases. Would much rather save another $10-$15 dollars by waiting a couple of months. Either purchase new at store after price comes down, find at pawn shop, or used at blockbuster would suit me fine as well.
