Default The Witcher - Remake

https://www.thewitcher.com/en/news/4...in-development

A ground up remake in Unreal Engine 5. Personally really excited for this because the PlayStation never got the original 2 games and they're definitely dated by modern gaming standards so to experience the story this way would be really amazing and get to experience the start of this gaming journey with Geralt.

The PS4 version only allowed us to merely select choices. Now playing them out will feel great.

From what I'm hearing, CDPR is barely involved with this. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Part of me is glad and part of me is skeptical.

Apparently they have senior Witcher staff on this in some capacity and are giving oversight to the project. Given its a remake, i would think they feel confident that the story blueprints etc. are in place for the outsourced studio to be entrusted but i do fear a GTA Trilogy fiasco not being learned from where they shouldn't have started off by using the extremely poor mobile versions as the base to remaster.

That said, i am going to be cautiously optimistic that the GTA situation for R* was something they took notes on and also that their Cyberpunk 2077 launch fiasco ensures they've running a tighter ship for quality.

I do want to experience this game and hope that same Witcher 3 CDPR consistency is here for quality.

The Witcher 1, okay, that makes more sense. I thought at first they were going to remake Witcher 3, which would be as "brilliant" as remaking Horizon 1 is, still running on PS4 hardware in the same console generation pretty much. Thankfully it's of the first game, witch I never played, but hear it's turn based, no real time action. Hopefully they make the action real time like Witcher 3. Outsourcing it to another studio is smart. CDPR can barely handle making new games these days it seems...

I was actually just thinking about what would be my 5 picks for a ground-up remake and this is one of them. I loved this game the first time I played it but the gameplay wasn’t great to begin with and has aged badly, so I’ve never been able to get back into it for a second playthrough. This could go sideways, though, if they change too much in terms of the story, voice acting, and general tone of the game.

It's funny you say about Witcher 3 because so much time seems to have passed, people forgot that CDPR already announced a Witcher 3 remaster for next gen consoles and free upgrade for existing owners.

That's why i hope the remaster manages to do a really good job and bump it up to a consistent quality because if the Witcher remake is good, guaranteed the 2nd game will also get remade if the first sells enough.

This generation is starting to look a bit underwhelming.

Usually i am against recent remakes for games only released or remastered a gen ago, but this was a longer time than that and ripe for a remake and wider release.

Sadly the current generation of people’s have 0 creative ideas they can call their own. Hence why they look to the past.

I expect at least 20 more major remakes this gen that haven’t been announced yet.

When I had a 360 before it kept burning out, I saw in a video game magazine, a preview for Witcher 2. I was very interested in buying it back then, hearing it was from a newer developer with lots of creativity. Then my 360 gave out from the red rings overheating every refurbished free warranty MS console I got replaced in the mail, giving up with 360 after the 3rd burnt out console, then trading in the 4th immediately.

Witcher 1 and 2 remade would be helpful for anyone who didn't own them on PC back then, or 360, that's true. In this case, it also makes sense for those reasons, since those 2 games have never been on PS consoles.

Sad but true. But yeah, thank goodness for independent and smaller studios to provide gamers with new and fresh ideas for games. What a relief for independent creators, compared to the stale creativity of AAA studios it seems, stifled no doubt by their corporate owners.

These days from AAA studios, the expectation for their next big release is "We would like to announce a remake of our classic games".

The Witcher 3 is getting a PS5 remaster just like Horizon Zero Dawn; the only difference between them is the price. The Witcher 3 is a free upgrade, Horizon Zero Dawn will likely be a $10 upgrade.

I get the feeling with so many remakes and remasters being released so far, but I actually have no problem with this one. The Witcher 1 never came out on anything but computers, and it's 15 years old. Now for a lot of people who never got to play it, they will be able to and it will (hopefully) be more playable. Given how old it is, I have a feeling it's probably not aged that well.

It hasn't. It doesn't play anything like the second game, let alone the third. A remake is very welcome.

CD Projekt Red have two other Witcher games in the works along with this remake, one of which will kick off a new trilogy.

Even the second game hasn't really aged that well. The gameplay is fine, but it has the worst map I've ever tried to use in a video game. I actually never finished the game when I tried to play it a couple of years ago or so on Xbox because the map was so bad.

I'll gladly play this remake and will no doubt finish it since they made great strides in that area since that debacle.

This is exactly the core reason imo you can give this type of remake a pass. Nobody batted an eyelid for Demon Soul's which came from that gen but also games like FF7 Remake which forgive me had been planned for a remake even earlier than we got it if Wikipedia is right. The tech demo just refuelled demand imo for it and it didn't release till the PS4 gen, then a game from as far back as this with the clunky gameplay, it needs it.

People aren't seemingly complaining when they see Modern Warfare games get a remake, but buying them in millions alongside cosmetics from Warzone etc. do create the bad example for them to follow hut hopefully CDPR just keep it in the vein of all the Witcher 3 things.

It'll be interesting to see what's holding up the progress with that Witcher upgrade to 60 fps 4K textures. It's been awhile now.

As far as the Horizon 1 remaster, that'll be very interesting to see how far they go with it. There is room for improvement when playing Horizon 1 and then Horizon 2 for some visuals, but it won't be night/day difference I imagine. $10 upgrade? I would be surprised Sony would be so generous these days. That would be nice of them though. If it'll look like Horizon 2, I was thinking $70 since it'll be much more than 4K 60 fps involved, which it already hits with the PS4 Pro version on a Ps5.

Interesting. Was the map layout restricted, narrow corridors or preventing progress or requiring it to be unlocked?

Some "open map" games like Fable, are very linear along restricted paths to each section. So you walk down a narrow road to get to each "open" section. Nothing truly open about those kinds of maps. Or like the "open world" maps in some driving games that restrict the player to only roads, no off road to access all of that open land at all.

I think that upcoming Gothic game remake is more linear path based too from what I saw of it so far.
Test Drive Unlimited, that was one of the largest open world games ever.

That's the one good thing about this remake since the original game was only on PC (and free via GoG).

I'd not mind if Rare's Conker Bad Fur Day was remade. I mean, it was remade for the Xbox, but had a lot of censorship which made it inferior to the N64 version.
