Default Eide Bd-rom

I've been looking everywhere for an older style EIDE BD-ROM with no luck. I ordered one that was advertised as IDE but it turned out to be SATA. Does anyone know where I can buy one? Used or refurbs OK.

Start here to see which models are PATA: http://www.emedialive.com/articles/r...leid=11425#ixk

Or check out a SATA controller card.

Its actually an experiment for a Blu Ray standalone player that uses an IDE interface.

I saw that thread and researched some of the models, but most lead to dead ends, or were recorders which I dont need.

Thanks

Default My experiment

Thanks guys,

I ended up getting a similar SATA to IDE adapter from Newegg and plugged in a Pioneer BDC-2202 drive into a Pioneer BDP-51FD standalone player. I wasn't expecting much but to my surprise CD and DVD playback works. BD's however display "load "and right before the screen goes blank, it says "can't play disk". I tried about 10 diff BD's with the same result. Looks like the player detects BD just fine, but its no doubt getting caught on some kind of copy protection. Its been an interesting experiment, and was trying to get my head around whats causing the playback failure. I thought maybe it was something to do with region coding, but I tried playing "I am Legend" which is supposedly region free, but it displayed the same message.

Anyone have any ideas?

It probably is a problem with HDCP. The adapter may be at fault. Have you tried the BD Advisor from CyberLink? That should point out what is having problems. It will probably point to your BD drive in which it's not the drive to blame but the adapter and/or IDE connection. You might need to use SATA.

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded and ran the utility on an older computer and it detected the Pioneer BDC-2202 as compliant. I'm not sure this utility runs an HDCP test or simply looks up the model # and compares it with a database.

Anyway I'm not able to test BD functionality on this computer because the graphics card is not compliant. Man don't you just love this HDCP crap! I've sent an email to the vendor of the adapter to ask if it breaks the HDCP chain. This has been an interesting experiment so far.
