Yes it is similar. I am very sad I missed out on that Al Adamson set.

I flicked through that particular masterpiece yesterday and it was like watching footage from an erectile dysfunction clinic.

I'd say that he was a pretty great cult director, but not a great pornographer.

So anybody else’s copy have these weird creases on the back? Like the artwork was too big and scrunched up along the bottom when attached to the case. Not a big deal, just wondering.

I didn't see this mentioned yet so consider this a word to the wise, as well as a vent:

The last disc in this set is "lovingly designed to match Ray's discs from Mascot Video" or words to that effect. The only problem is the ****ing thing won't work in my player (a Panasonic UB820). It gets to that on-screen message I quoted then just goes to a blank screen. Whatever "clever" bullshit Severin did for this disc means it's just a coaster for me, and I assume other people with the same player. How about making sure your discs work first guys? It's not as if this set cost €168 or anything!

Plays fine on my PS4 and multi-Region Sony player.

Not heard any other reports of problems with the disc, Panasonic or otherwise. Are you sure it’s not just a bad disc?

I just tested my disc and didn't have any issues. It seems that you simply have a faulty disc as sb5 said.

I’d be curious if anyone else that had a Panasonic could test. It is possible a specific brand/model could have issues with the disc.

There’s not really anything actually “special” about the disc that would make it technologically different than the others - it’s just the menu is visually stylized to look like older blocky digital menus. It’s only aesthetic - it still works like any other Blu Ray menu.

Thanks for the replies. I don't know if the disc is bad - it doesn't have any marks or blemishes, and I did clean it and try again.

The UB-820 is picky with certain discs though: some of the Vinegar Syndrome discs which needed replacements had issues with that player; so did the first disc of the Doris Wishman Moonlight Years set - it wouldn't load at all, though a replacement disc worked fine.

As sb5 said, if anyone has this disc and player combo, it would be worth trying to see if it's another one of these issues or if it is just at my end. Meanwhile I'll email Severin and see what they say.

Thanks again.

Hopefully this isn't a dumb question but have you tried any other players? I can't remember specific titles but there have been times where a disc wouldn't load in one machine so I put it into another and got it to play.

So my UB-820 also just went to a black screen after the message, BUT pressing "top menu" on the remote brought it to the movie select screen. It worked from that point forward.

My PS5 had no issues with it, so it does seem specific to the device.

Yeah, I have an old Sony for Region A discs and it works on that. It's a more reliable player but I'm not sure how long it'll last for. The Panasonic produces a better picture though - when it works - so I'd really like it to work on that!

Thanks for trying! It's interesting that you got the same result; unfortunately, pressing Top Menu doesn't do anything for me. I've tried everything I could think of but it just won't get to the menu on the Panasonic.

Just to add, I have the latest firmware (1.69) so it's not that either.
