Default Polk Monitor 50's or 60's plus CS2 To Begin Front Stage

I just ordered the Pioneer vsx 03 and now my quest to build my speaker setup begins.

I have decided to go with Polk(but Im still out auditioning till the last minute)my question is I know Im going with the cs2 as the center, I would like to know whether I should go 50-60 with monitor towers?

Budget is always a concern if I go with the 50's will it pair with the cs2 well?
and how much difference is there between the 50's and 60's?

Thanks as always your insight is invaluable

Go with the 60s, if you are between these two polks. Goodluck.

+1, the 60's have the extra 5.25" driver and helps for it to handle some of the lower frequencies better than the 50's, (by getting down to 38Hz than the 42Hz for the 50's, however, you would never hear the difference). Not that you are going to push either the 50's or 60's for your bass, but you will find that having that extra driver will help round out your front soundstage that much better.

Both the 50's and 60's will timber match the CS2, as they are all part of the Monitor line that Polk is phasing out. You will find that the CS2 will blend in well with either the 50's or 60's, despite it's larger driver. But IMO, it will blend in that much better with the 60's because of it's extra driver.

Good luck!

Spot on post. You'll also get a little more maximum power handling with the 60s over the 50s. All considered, the 60s are well worth spending the extra money for.

Several of us have the Polk Audio T90e speakers, which are identical to the Monitor 60 (T90e is the European model version of the Monitor 60), and I've yet to hear any significant negativity from owners of either one.

Go for the 60s!

Newegg is a great site to buy Polk. I ordered my 50's on Monday and they were delivered yesterday. They sound great. I paid $99 a piece for them. I checked today and they are back up to $150 a piece. If you go with Newegg, you may want to wait a week to see if they come down in price.

I know you are thinking about the 50s 60s, but you could get the cherry 70s for 179.99 at Newegg.

cs2 still ok with the 70's?

right now If its truly worth it I might go 2 fronts(70's) and waite on the cs2 till I can replenish my funds.

How much more noticable-for the better- is it going from the 60 to the 70?

I started out contint to purchase the 50's & the cs2, but I guess I just wanna be sure Im happy with the purchase, I dont mind waiting to add a piece now and again, the sub(which I understand with the polk m series you need a sub)will have to waite for awhile.

I am strongly considering the 70's if its a "major" upgrade over the 60's otherwise I might go 60's + cs2 now, so any input on how "big" an improvement the 70's are would help.

honestly, I think the Monitor 60's and CS2 will be plenty.

I don't think you will gain much with the 70's over the 60's, and it will only cost you more.

Dude, if your planning on getting the Monitor 70 and spending the extra then step it up to the Energy C-500 from audioadvisor.com, much better speaker for just $20 more each. JMO.

As long as you get a sub I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. I love my 70's and CS2.

Whatever fronts you decide on you could always move them to the surrounds if you want something bigger up front in the future. Just a thought.

"what about the subwoofer, whats your plan?"

Right now 2 fronts...maybe the center, then the sub (have to be honest havent researched subs much have any suggestions ?)....what center is best for the energy 500?

Seems like there is no "major" difference between the 60-70, well as usual you guys are the best.

I hope to have my speaker order in place by this week just unclear on the road to go....as I stated before I had a simple plan before I really researched all this, oh well this is half the fun the other half Im sure will come when Im enjoying the setup.

Center channel for the Energy C-500, is the C-C100 for $125 at www.wwstereo.com free shipping. Monitor 50 to 60s big difference, 60 to 70 difference, not that big... IMO

If you do Choose to go with the Polk Monitor series and have your heart set on the 60's. Newegg has them on sale for $107 each with free shipping. (not sure how long the sale will go on though...)

Enjoy,

Michael
