Default Brick (2005)

According to the search feature, there isn't a thread for this movie in this section of the forums.

So for those of you who haven't seen it, or haven't seen it in a long time, I'd just like to recommend it to you, especially if you've recently watched Rian Johnson's Glass Onion.

There is a nice, timeless quality to this modern-day neo-noir that I think is going to keep the movie from ever feeling dated. Of course, it was Johnson's directing debut and it speaks volumes about how much he adores whodunnits, and what a good feel he has for them.

It also has a very good performance from Joseph Gordon-Levitt. You'd think being in his 20s he might not have been a great choice to play a high school kid, but I think he pulls it off rather nicely.

There's also the great locations, with the entire movie having been filmed in Johnson's hometown of San Clemente, California (He attended high school there).

This film Brick, is definitely an acquired taste IMO, starring Joe Levitt.

I wasn't able to get into the character story or dialog and wasn't able to relate to it. I heard a lot of hype about it, but when I watched it, I kept wondering what they loved about it. Even so, it was a career changing film for the director for sure, made with very little money apparently.

I couldn't find a trailer that wasn't an R rated preview for Brick, released back in 2005 or 2006 I think.

Looper, that was hyped up too, but I couldn't get into that film either with Willis as the time traveling star.

He's doing well with Knives Out films it seems.

It's like taking an old-fashioned 1940s noir and transplanting it to modern-day California, complete with dialogue straight out of Dashiell Hammett

What about the upcoming 4k? Aren't those region-free?

True, though I see that's still currently undated. Hopefully more info soon!

It's supposed to be released early this year, although that could change. Any info would probably be immediately posted on the 4k section of the forums.

I found a cheap DVD copy of this and watched it last night.

Really liked it a lot.

This would make a great double feature with Mysterious Skin
