Curious to check it out on streaming later this month. Still unsure how I feel overall.

The remainder of January is going to be boring though. I doubt House Party or Plane will make over $4M opening weekend.

January always is, but this is undoubtably a good start.

Most likely it will be either January 24th or 26th.

At the latest, February 7th or 9th.

Make it like April. People wanna stay home, make them wait. I just don't get why movie companies keep bowing to the streaming folk. It's just ruining the theater experience.

and on many movies it's hurting their own box office, especially non-"tentpole" films. So many people (including some right here) now days say things like "oh, it'll be on streaming in like a month, I'll just wait" (especially if it's coming to a streaming service they get, rather than just digital purchase or rental), when if it was the old 3-month wait, or even the old 6-month wait, they would probably see it in the theater. then still watch it again when it hits streaming.

I think you'll find that the people who actually attend the theater are the ones that are ruining the theater experience.

Anyways, I hope it will be released in 4K Dolbyvision with Atmos sound like THE MENU was. I've enjoyed that twice so far at home.

I'm glad the industry has found a way to keep us both happy.

10/10

I'm creating a Google alert for Akela Cooper because she is a hell of a screenwriter. The writing was definitely way above average for this kind of film. The acting was also really, really good. I'm always amazed when kids can pull off a role like this. Violet McGraw kind of carried this movie in a lot of places and that's impressive (to me).

The ending was a F*CK YES ending for me so top marks there too.

So many great shots and sequences. I was constantly entertained and never bored.

I went into this hoping for something at least as good as Malignant but it was even better.

[Show spoiler]It's not even close to a Chucky rip-off. It's more in the lane of the Terminator franchise or Ex Machina. Chucky was possessed. Which is AWESOME. Nothing better than a serial-killer possessed doll on the loose! Sign me up. But M3GAN is not that by a long shot. This film is actually asking some big questions that are interesting to me. And yet I laughed out loud several times. The humor was on point. Ronny Chieng and Lori Dungey were both really funny in this. I also enjoyed "F*ck off, Holly!"

Lastly, I might be old and out of touch but the effects in this film felt revolutionary to me. I'm sure someone will set me straight but I still have to give this effects team props. M3GAN felt different from any other malevolent force I've seen on screen before. Closer to Hal 9000 than Chucky.

So glad I saw this in the theater! Small crowd of mostly adults with a few teenagers but everyone was super into it and having a shared experience. It's about 33F and rainy here so maybe that's why it was a little sparse. Not complaining though.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

No offense but I don’t see how the writing was “above average.” The dialogue was pretty rote and basic with maybe a few good lines thrown in. But the script was pretty pedestrian and really fairly average.

As mentioned earlier, this is all just each person's opinion.

So, cheers!

Yes, this here. But people here are spoiled. Have been the last few years. When you say people at home can wait. but those people go i need it now! I can't wait a few months! Cave in to my demands! I deserve it!

If they want movies right now as soon as they come out, they can have them. Those are what used to be called 'TV movies'. Nothing wrong with them. But kill theatrical, and that's all that'll be left.

Look at this newspaper ad from forty years ago, boasting that An Officer And A Gentleman is now entering its "18th Smash Week!"

https://archive.org/details/sim_bost...p?view=theater

Nowadays, a romantic drama would be lucky to last eighteen DAYS in theaters, all because idiots have grown too lazy and complacent in the post-Covid era.
