Default Playing Blu-ray on my PS3

I keep being told that I shouldn't play too many movies on my PS3 as it would burn the laser faster. Is this true? I dont plan on buying a dedicated bluray player but I also dont want to burn my ps3 out.

It all adds up but if you're playing games for 10, 20, 30+ hours, they contribute a great deal more to the wear and tear of components.

Ya, don't worry about it. My PS3 is mostly used for Bluray movies and I haven't had a problem with it since I got it. And I've had my PS3 since it was released. Now, I heard another rumor that playing old PS1 games can mess it up, but I don't know if that's true or not. I have the old 60GB PS3...

I have 2 PS3s and they both only play movies....... I don't play games on them because I don't really care for games, and I don't want to wear out my Blu-ray player

You'll be fine..... play all the movies you like.......

its all circumstantial.

I bought a 40GB in January of '08 and it died on me last month....I also have a 60GB from July '07 and its running just fine....both get the same amount of playtime...makes no sense.
