Has anyone had success using this same playback method on the final Oppo Blu-ray player (UDP-203)?

I ordered Every Thing Will Be Fine from Seatownrecords on eBay almost a month ago, and they still haven't shipped it or responded to my message, so I have to recommend avoiding them.

Did you ever receive it?

Did anyone manage to successfully add the subs that Mike made onto their Toto ISO file? I tried but couldn’t work out how to do it.

Default Where?

Is this 3D Blu-ray still available or is it now OOP? Having given up on waiting for someone to make an English friendly version, I've decided to make the purchase (if I can). What site should I go to for a purchase?

A few of us purchased it at dvdland.it:

Is the out-of-phase issue with some of the shots on this disc something that is baked into the original camera negatives, or is it caused by a faulty remaster? If it's baked into the negatives (due to cameras being out of sync I'm guessing?), could it have been corrected during the remastering process? I'm guessing it can't be corrected if the 3D film Archive gets handed the same remaster at some point for a US release? I find those phasing shots really distracting. I've seen that happen on a handful of 3D discs.

On another note, does anybody know what setting I can use on my LG TV to push the 3D window back closer to where it was originally intended for this disc? Somebody posted earlier in the thread how to do that with another TV brand, but it wasn't an LG. I'm pretty sure I remember my LG TV having the ability to do that too, but I'm unsure what numbers to use without distorting things.

Big thanks for the link. That's what I was looking for.

It looks like LG uses a combination of two settings - depth and viewpoint. Standard setting is 10 depth 0 viewpoint.

For anybody that has an LG and owns this disc, does anybody know what numbers would be ideal to get closer to what was intended for this film? This film was pushed out of the screen to maximum effect so the idea would be to get it back into the screen somewhat without distortion.

That thread gets pretty technical. I normally wouldn't play with this setting but they really did affect the way this film is presented big time so I was hoping somebody has already figured this out for this particular film. I can play with the settings randomly but that doesn't mean I know how to get it where it should be.

Just adjust the "viewpoint" setting on your LG TV to a negative value, which "pushes back" the whole picture "into the screen" (moves the whole picture away from the viewer), and set it to a point where you think the original movie was supposed to be presented, which probably was "a little more into the screen" than the way set on the blu-ray transfer when it was done.

This "viewpoint" value (-10 to +10) may shift the left and right images more or less pixels in different TV models for all I know, so giving you a value may not be all that "correct" for your particular case. Find a scene where you think the intention of the creators was clear that some object in that scene was supposed to be at the same depth as the screen itself and adjust the viewpoint value until that object doesn't look "doubled/blurry/weird" without wearing the 3D glasses.

The downside to having this "viewpoint" setting to anything but 0 is that you lose a few pixels of the image on the sides, but not a problem at all for this film that being 1.37 has lotssss of black empty space to the sides of the image on a HD 1.78 screen.

So my guess? Set viewpoint to somewhere between -4 and -10 if you want a (probably) closer 3D experience to what the original authors intended, and enjoy the film. No big deal. Remember to set it back to 0 for any other films, though.

EDIT: the "depth" setting AFAIK and contrary to a lot of information out there, is NOT meant for anything related to watching 3D with the TV in true-3D mode with true-3D content. I assume it's for when the 2D->3D conversion mode is chosen. Regardless, the "depth" setting is de-activated/grayed out for me when I'm watching (true) 3D content and I've never even used the 2D to 3D conversion on my old LG at all, so not even sure what it does though I can very well imagine. But the only reasonable setting that should be available for watching 3D content is one that allows to shift horizontally the left and right images separately a bit for cases like this one exactly and it's exactly what most 3D TV and projectors have a setting for, which results in pushing the whole image a bit farther away or closer to the viewer, at the expense of likely "cutting off" pixels from sides of the image. On my LG TV, it's called "viewpoint", works fine and as expected. Shows up when in 3D mode and I press the "qmenu" (quick menu) button, under "3D mode conf"(iguration) submenu. My Benq projector also has a similar setting.

For Epson projectors Bob recommended a -4 Depth setting, using the title credit as a reference point.

This problem is consistent throughout the feature.

Thankfully, there is an easy fix - at least on the Epson 5040. Go into the 3-D Setup and set the 3D Depth setting to -4. That will get you pretty close to the intended stereoscopic image placement.

Just a quick note to clarify that the "viewpoint" setting in many LG TV's affects the same thing as the "depth" setting in EPSON projectors, and the "depth" setting on the LG TV's is just a whole different thing (how much "fake" parallax the 2D-to-3D conversion mode will generate).

There is no "standard" as what this setting is called, the one to "shift left-and-right views horizontally a little with respect to each other" or "how much" the value affects the result on each brand or for that matter on each particular model of device.

Just know that there is very likely a setting in your device that will allow you to reposition the whole picture a bit closer or farther away from you, and for this blu-ray edition, it's probably closer to the original material to have it set to a value that pushes everything somewhat more "into the screen", as that's most likely how it was in the original material and whoever did the blu-ray transfer just decided to do it differently and make "everything" stick "out of the screen" a bit more than the original.

Big thanks for all the advice. That definitely helps clear up those two settings. I had no idea the "depth" setting was only for 2D>3D conversions. That makes it a lot easier for me to experiment.

It seems like a good target is to adjust for those opening titles, so when they first appear they start right at the screen without any added pop-out. That should set the level about right for viewing. I just have to remember to set it back afterwards.

I'm with you on that 100%. Though I'd still buy a corrected version (if it had English subtitles).

Just came back to this one today and wondered if anyone managed to add any subtitles or English audio to this disc? I'm keen to try external subs via my Oppo player but unsure where to locate them. Thanks.

Bob - I assume you didn't get anywhere with trying to license this for a future 3DFA release?

Not on my initial inquiry, but that was several years ago. At some point, when the dust settles, I’ll try again.

Thank you very much - will try the .srt file (on a USB drive) with my Oppo player.

Thanks too to Mike for his great work on the subtitles!
