11 years ago I did a MGS marathon in preparation for MG5: Ground Zeroes as this franchise is by far my favorite of everything I have ever played, Second only to The Super Mario Bro's games and just slightly ahead of the Elder Scroll's games. During that last Marathon I played in Chronological order of in game story and played..

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (Xbox 360 HD Collection)
Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (PSP)
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker (Xbox 360 HD Collection)
Metal Gear (xbox 360 HD Collection)
Snakes Revenge: Metal Gear 2 (NES)
Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (Xbox 360 HD Collection)
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (Gamecube)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (Xbox 360 HD Collection)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3)

I'm beyond excited for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Delta release but my number 1 wish remains that a proper Modern HD remake of Metal Gear Solid would finally materialize. I'm hoping Konami learns from Capcom's success with the Resident Evil Franchise and starts releasing Modern upgrades of all the Metal Gear games as I would buy every singe one without batting an eye despite owning all of them on countless systems already.

That may be. I wouldn't know, as my memory is fairly foggy of MGS4, other than knowing I enjoyed it enough to see it through. And I didn't play any that came before that. After that, I played phantom pain, if you can even call that expensive demo a game, and ground zeroes.

I can't remember how the MGS5 cutscenes were when I last played it on the PS4, but they definitely don't seem to be skippable with the PS5. I didn't try skipping every one. But, none of the buttons would do anything in the ones I did, as well as helicopter takeoffs, slow motion supernatural soldier posturing, etc. Maybe PS5 play is handicapped. It wouldn't be the first. And either there are some other game features that are locked out on the PS5, or I haven't gotten to the point where they're enabled yet, despite being well past part 1.

The open-world setting allows for a lot of game play for sure, if you focus on side ops especially, albeit extremely redundant play. And missions are longer since there's a lot of open terrain to cover between bases, or sometimes just from your drop-off point, no fast travel, and the gameplay itself is all about stealth (which I like, until you have to play the whole mission over for the fourth time, due to a fault in the games mechanics), and other tedium: all the pickups, interrogations, extractions, development, base wars, etc. Which, I'm not knocking. I like that stuff to an extent, but some of it just seems a little too poorly planned. But main mission cutscenes in part two are too often just repeats. The other night I walked out and just let it play. Brushed my teeth, etc, etc. It had to be at least 10 minutes before I returned and the thing still wasn't over yet. That's just way too long for a cutscene, especially one we've already seen. And MGS5's really drag out the theatrics too much. Bear in mind, NDs story driven Uncharted series and Last of Us are by far my favorite games. So, I'm not some COD multiplayer action junkie. I always tend to favor a stealth approach, if the game will allow. So MGS5 is right up my alley.

I remember almost everything was skippable on MGSV, even the short (less than a minute) cutscenes

anyway, my least favorite part about V was the first mission, which was too scripted. I’m glad the rest of the games isn’t like that

Until you replay that exact same mission near the end with one slightly different cutscene

That’s when I knew I didn’t like it. I thought it was good at first

I feel the same way about Uncharted 4, the first time you play it you’re in awe, but it doesn’t hold up

I'm eager to find out which consoles this will come out for. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are a given, and if that's all we get I won't complain as I'm planning on picking up a PS5 in the near future ether way. But it would also be so fun to be able to own and play these games on the Switch!

They did them for the HD collection with 2/3/peace walker I would assume this time around they will as-well since they appear to be ground up remakes vs. when they tossed in the codes for the ps3 online store for MGS1

The games in the Master Collection are ports. MGS2 and 3 are the HD collection versions, MGS1 I don't think we know yet whether it's the PS1 or PC version, but either way it's a port of the original game and not a remake.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the remake of MGS3, and the only remake we know we're getting for now.

The "latest consoles" terminology on the site makes me think it'll just be PS5/Series/PC, but we'll see what happens in a few months' time I suppose when they reveal full details.

I think so too, but even though it's last-gen the Switch is still Nintendo's latest console, so it could be interpreted either way. We'll see.

Not MGS4 means a skip on Vol 2 for me, but I’d pick them up on a sale for Rising.

Hopefully this comes to PS4.
Seems like it should. Since it's basically just the same ones as the HD ones on 360/PS3 and PS1 version basically. No reason to own a PS5 yet. Hopefully it's physical too. Not just digital.

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is one of the main reasons I still have my PS3 set up.

The others are Deus Ex Human Revolution, Arkham Origins, Chrono Trigger and Parasite Eve.

Snake's Revenge isn't canon.

The games that really ask for a remake are MG and MG2. Those are hardly played in comparison to the other main titles. Would enjoy to see what a remake of those would be like. Especially retrofitted to what was later created as its prequels. That world changed for sure w/ MGS3. Got even wilder w/ MGS5, making less sense in a lot of ways.

I found that w/ multiplatform games, the 360 had it over the PS3. Even w/ the games that originally came out on a Sony system w/ those HD collections.

Bringing Portable Ops back seems rather pointless, unless they seriously overhaul the gameplay. Most of what it was doing was done way better in Peace Walker, and the story isn't that interesting.

I think so too. The 360 version Ninja Gaiden 2 is amazing but the PS3 version is total dogshit.

There is another issue however. Chrono Trigger, Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy Tactics were never released in the UK. I had to create American, Japanese and Hong Kong accounts on my PS3 to play the PS1 versions of many games.

Same here. That's something I appreciate about the last two generations; so many Japanese games that never made it to Europe back in the day are finally receiving official releases here. Chrono Cross, for example.

Mostly translation costs, for memory. A lot of those PS1 titles that we didn't get back then were due to their publishers - usually Square, it seemed - not wanting to fork out extra dough because the European editions would need to be multi-language, and also working at the PAL standard of 50Hz.

Even if a publisher were open to English-only releases of those in the applicable territories (UK, Australia, et al) the work would still need to be done to port the game to PAL compatability, so I think publishers would usually just figure it wasn't worth the effort for some of those slightly more niche titles. Hence, a numbered FF would get a global release, but Tactics never made it beyond Japan and the US.
