Default Sony BDP-S360 firmware update

I turned on my player this evening and was notified of an update. I decided to wait for now until I have some issue. Checked the website and it's not up there yet. Anyone have any playback issues with this player? I had a skipping disc a while back that was remedied by cleaning but that's it. Maybe they added some feature? The suspense is killing me.

It's up on their site now.

This firmware update enables the use of the Western Digital My Passport™ Essential™ 320GB portable hard drive (model WDME3200) for BD-Live functions.
Use of this hard drive with the Blu-ray Disc player is intended only for BD-Live functions.
Sony cannot guarantee that other external USB hard drives will support the BD-Live functions.
BD-Live is still pretty useless at this point IMO so not very exciting.

Default Cd-r

Quick question and a favor. I tried downloading an update for my 350 and put the update on a CD-R disc. It won't work once I put the CD into my 350. Am I doing something wrong?

I don't have a connection close enough to attach it to my ATT DSL modem.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Thanks, in advance, for your time and possible help

Once you extracted the file did you burn it as an image or as data? It has to be burnt as an image and the cd needs to be finalized. Not sure what your using for burning software or what your knowledge level is so don't be offended if these questions seem elementary. I know this is in the instructions but people (including myself) don't always read the instructions.

Good question. I am a novice on computer. Know how to get around, but not an expert. No offense taken whatsoever.

All I know is I downloaded it, saved it to my computer, then transferred it to the CD. Sounds like there may be another step I missing.

I have an HP. Not sure how to finalize, as I thought it did that automatically. Once it is done burning, my tray opens. I know when I burn DVD's on my DVD recorder, it always asks me to finalize.

Thanks! I am learning as I go

download this program.

Open it.
Go to Mode- ISO Write
Select the firmware .iso file location
Insert blank disc, and burn.

Before you do what crackinhedz says you need to double click the exe file you downloaded to extract the image file. It will ask you where you want to save it, just remember where you put it.

You may be able to use your current software but you will need to use the help or search online to find out how to burn an image with it. I use Nero myself, albeit the dated version 6. You can download the trial version and use that also although you would be out of luck next time without buying it or pirating it.

If all this just seems too confusing or too much time involved you can request a CD from Sony be sent to you.

This is the program I downloaded to burn images to disks for firmware updates. It's free and very simple to use. I used to order my disks from Sony too, until I found this program.

Hope it helps.

Thanks. Sony sent the discs quickly, so I was able to upgrade firmware.

Another quick question. Should I set it on Quick Start or leave it alone? I heard somewhere to leave it alone as it uses more power on Quick Start, but I can't remember for certain.

Thanks for all of your assistance.

I just got the Onkyo 606. Am loving it so far. Any suggestions? I am learning how to tweak the surround sound speakers. I am only using the front 2, a subwoofer, a center channel, and rear speakers for surround. Still trying to figure out what mode to use it in or should I let the 606 decide that for me?

I'm pretty much a novice to surround systems too. When I got my speakers connected to the receiver I ran the Audyssey 2EQ automatic speaker set-up and accepted the results. I really haven't "tweaked" anything to speak of. It sounds so much better than anything I ever had before that I'm in hog heaven listening to the audio. I set my blu-ray player to direct and let the receiver do all the decoding. Seems to work great. I just finished watching "Master and Commander" and the audio on that movie ROCKS.

Default Thanks

I just noticed my Sony Blu Ray wasn't set to direct, so I will try that.

I have enjoyed the new media room and looking forward to learning new tricks.

I've got the quick start disabled. It does use more power with it on, although I doubt it's much, but I figure what's a few more seconds when first turning on a player. I have the Onkyo 706 so I'm sure it's very similar to the 606. Soundfields are a matter of personal preference. I have TrueHD and DTS HD MA set to Select2 Cinema I believe it is. For Dolby Digital/DTS I have it set to PLIIX as I have a 7.1 system with 4 speakers in the rear and that combines the audio for the rear channels so I don't have 2 speakers sitting there doing nothing. Again it's all preference so you may like another soundfield. Chances are you'll switch them around a couple of times in the beginning until it suits you and then never change it again.

Thanks. I will try those settings. From what I remember, the 706 also has THX (not sure what that is totally) and a couple more bells and whistles. It looked like a great receiver. Got the 606 due to my budget. I was hedging on the 706, but my wife (CFO of the family) said we couldn't afford it lol.

You have to time your toy purchases just right. My wife had just bought a MacBook Pro so it was only fair that I could buy a new receiver and speakers, she couldn't argue with that logic.

THX is a just a label, in my opinion, and wasn't important to me. At the time that I bought it I was reading a lot of horror stories of power supplies running hot and some suddenly going sending sparks into the air for I believe it was the 605. I went with the 706 as I figured the 606 was just a replacement and maybe the 706 would be a different power supply. I haven't read any more horror stories on either the 606 or 706 but then again I haven't been looking. So far so good.

Is this the newest version to download?

http://esupport.sony.com/perl/swu-do...=1&region_id=1

So basically I would burn it to a cd as a data file and then just put it in the blu ray player and run it ? How and where is it going to be detected?

Thanks

The newest version is 007, so yes is the answer to your question. Very easy just burn the .iso image to a CD. If you are using Nero use the IMAGE, PROJECT, COPY tab. Sony puts thier upgrade up as a disc image this way you don't have to worry about details. Also the machine will recognize it as soon as you put it in, just follow the onscreen prompts. Very simple and nowhere near as frightening as some people make it seem. Word of caution though, use a new Blank CD-R (not RW, rewritable) and I always burn the disc at a lower speed than the maximum because faster speeds tend to have more write errors. I hope this helps.

Ditto. I did my update via CD right when I took the player out of the box a few days ago and it went perfectly. No worries, mate!
