So basically I would burn it to a cd as a data file and then just put it in the blu ray player and run it ? How and where is it going to be detected?

Thanks
The newest version is 007, so yes is the answer to your question. Very easy just burn the .iso image to a CD. If you are using Nero use the IMAGE, PROJECT, COPY tab. Sony puts thier upgrade up as a disc image this way you don't have to worry about details. Also the machine will recognize it as soon as you put it in, just follow the onscreen prompts. Very simple and nowhere near as frightening as some people make it seem. Word of caution though, use a new Blank CD-R (not RW, rewritable) and I always burn the disc at a lower speed than the maximum because faster speeds tend to have more write errors. I hope this helps.
