Default PS3 and STR-DG720 Issue

I recently upgraded my setup to include an HDMI cable receiver; the Sony STR-DG720 and since then I have been having an issue with the video cutting out when using the PS3 (games, or movies). I have no issues with my Direct TV DVR video with the receiver.

The receiver will click and reset, like the signal drops then comes back. I never had any issues when my PS3 was directly plugged into the TV for Video. My intial thoughts were my HDMI cable was going bad, so I purchased another (Mediabridge - 6ft Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable) and the issue is still occurring. It only happens like once a movie, so it is not frequent at all.

Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried the PS3 on another input? Could be a bad input on the receiver. Or just go and exchange the receiver for a new one to really make sure it isn't just the receiver.

The 2nd poster is right on the money, I believe. Some times you will run in to bad inputs, its just a dice roll.

Uggh, I was hoping this was a setting or some other issue. I'll try running to the PS3 to another port and see what happens.

Thanks for the replies.

Sounds like a receiver problem to me, good luck.

i had a ton of issues with the 720 and my ps3...there seems to be a handshake issue. the problem i was having is that when the ps3 was going through the receiver there was a horrible red tint to the screen and the audio would cut out. I tried 4 different 720's...all had the same problem. Sony were no help. I eventually gave up and got an onkyo instead....hope you will have some better luck with yours than i did with mine!

I seem to remember there being something with having 24fps on the PS3 and having dropouts. If that is on, try turning it off.

I too believe that this DG720 is the reason for my drop outs as well...

I have the exact same issue with my Sony Receiver, just like you if it happens it's only once at the beginning of the movie then all is good. I tried switching cables too but no luck. I gave up on it though since it doesn't happen all that often for the price I paid for my AVR I'm not too concerned. Although if we could get this problem pin pointed I'd be happy!

I began having a similar problem when I added a projector to my setup, but in my case it progressively got worse until it was cutting out every few minutes. After some testing I found that it is indeed the HDMI output on the DG720. I came up with a work around that clears up the issue in the meantime but I think a new receiver will be my first upgrade of the new year
