And that's the sound of me putting the 15-disc Blu Masterpiece Collection on eBay.

No doubt Warner will do UHDs of North by Northwest and Strangers on a Train before long. Paramount will likely do To Catch a Thief at some point. And The Paradine Case is the only Selznick (owned by Disney) without a 4K restoration now.

Why does universal give the Hitchcock 4ks individual releases on day 1 but not the universal monster 4k sets? Shouldn't those in theory sell more than lesser known hitchcock films? Gonna be sad if they don't give Bride of Frankenstein 4k a standalone.

I’d think there is a larger market for Hitchcock than Universal Monsters, fans of cinema vs fans of monster movies? I think Hitchcock wins that battle on sales. I do love Dracula, Mummy, and creature from the Black Lagoon. For me it’s 3 monster films and all of Hitchcock’s films on the highest quality physical releases available.

Amazing! Was wondering if Vol. 2 sold enough to justify a third, obviously it did

Praise the lord. Day 1.

Now give me North by Northwest for the love for god, Warner.

I think Universal always had plans to release all of the Hitchcock films they have rights to. But they chose to issues the 4k titles in waves instead of all at once.

I often think certain 4K disc releases happen not because they're big money makers but because the sales cover the cost of restorations that the film company would pretty much do at some point anyway, whether for streaming services or something else.

Universal has been consistent with the Hitchcock titles on physical media. These titles seem to be amongst their biggest sellers. The DVD and Blu-ray sets where complete sets from the start, but it seems like they decided to take their time with UHD. The results so far have been outstanding.

Actually, the original DVDs of the Hitchcock films were released in 2 boxsets, but on the same day in 2001. And Vertigo, Psycho and Rear Window had already been released on DVD a couple of years earlier, in the late 90s, so anyone who wanted all the Universal Hitchcocks had to rebuy those three.

The BD set was complete from the start, but Psycho had already been released as a standalone, so again customers had to rebuy that one with the set.

You are right. For some reason I thought I remembered this as the first DVD set release.

Yep, these were the two DVD sets released in March 2001, I had both:

More annoyingly, these two DVD sets each had 1 of the 4 DVDs containing all the Hitchcock-directed episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

However, to get the other 2 DVDs, you had to buy two additional mini-DVD sets, which each contained DVDs already in the bigger sets, so you had to buy those movies twice to get all the AH Presents episodes. Truly moronic arrangement.

One mini set had The Man Who Knew Too Much and Rear Window:

The other mini set had Vertigo and Psycho:

Only by buying all 4 DVD sets did you get all 4 AH Presents DVDs.

They did sell them individually, correct? I did not buy the sets, but I was able to get them as stand alone releases.

In any case, I am happy with how Universal has handled them on UHD.

I still have all these. I couldn't bring myself to get rid of them. I loved these sets. Those were good times.

The feature film DVDs were sold separately, but the 4 Alfred Hitchcock Presents DVDs were not sold separately. The only way to get Vol 2 and Vol 3 was to buy the two big sets. The only way to get Vol 1 and Vol 4 was to buy the two additional minisets, and get four DVDs you already owned. I have no idea what genius came up with that arrangement. I found Vol 1 and Vol 4 on eBay, from people who bought the small sets and split them up.

I love hearing what everyone has to say, but you guys might want to edit your posts above amd delete the photos from the portion of my original post that you quoted, they're kinda big, I was lazy and didn't take time to shrink them, and I'm not sure people want to scroll past all of the photos three times.

Hiccup? I haven't watched my set yet. Is there something wrong with the Psycho 4K? If so, can you kindly point me in the direction of the replacement program?
