This is a title where the extant disc just looks absolutely terrible - it’s seemed stunning to me that this has went so long without a new pass on BD already.

The photography in this film is absolutely gorgeous, a UHD would do wonders.

I still think this was the best film of 2005.

One of the best films ever, as far as I’m concerned. Yes, it was groundbreaking, but it’s also a very powerful drama in its own right. The screenplay is impeccably written, and the entire cast delivered fantastic performances (and not just Ledger and Gyllenhaal; Michelle Williams and Anne Hathaway were just as good). It’s also gorgeously shot. Even my parents love this movie, and I remember sneaking their DVD copy to watch when I was in middle school (along with many of their other R-rated movies like Sideways and Bridget Jones).

I figured this was coming eventually, but I was split on if this was coming from Kino, Criterion, or Universal themselves. Kino makes the most sense since they have a longstanding deal with the Focus Features catalog specifically. It badly needed a reissue since the Blu-ray is pushing 15 years old, and I was holding out accordingly. This will be Day 1 for me for sure.
