Default Thought regarding the Paramount deals!

Just a quick thought. We all know that part of the deal for Paramount/Dreamworks going red was that Spielberg's directed films would also appear on blue (am I right in saying The Godfather's too?).

Anyway - I assume all this will be managed by the studio's - in this case Paramount.

Who is to say that they won't release a sub-standard version on Blu-ray - lacking any kind of special features, no uncompressed pcm, poor video quality (or even SD DVD quality) onto their Blu-ray disc releases???

Who could stop them doing this? Or even only releasing a limited number of copies? It could be argued by them in any of the above scenarios that they kept their end of the bargain - I know it's not necessarily good business but dumping Blu wasn't good for business either...and they got $150,000,000 which could be pay-off money for pretty much anything......

They dont have anything against Blu, never have had anything against it, they were bought out for 18 months, thats it, end of story. Theres no way that even Spielberg would allow a subpar release of one of his movies, I wouldnt even give this a second thought if I were you.

Spielberg's one of the few director's with the power to guarantee any title of his that is released meets his standards. 1941 notwithstanding, I think it's safe to say that his standards are quite high.

Steven Spielberg. Directors with his clout get final approval of their films' transfer, so if the BD transfer sucks, he'll make 'em do it again, properly.

Who cares about Paramount? They are the laughing stock of Hollywood. They *****d themselves out and crapped all over a portion of their consumer base for bribe money. After the $150mil runs dry I hope they go bankrupt and close their doors forever.

first off, people like steven speilberg will not allow a poor video quality of his videos for release. secondly, consumers will not be happy with the provider of the product, so i am sure they will complain, and the provider will have to do something about it. thrid and last, AND DON'T BE OFFENDED. BUT enough about paramount. BD BUY-A-THON is on september 18 and remember that we must support it, by going out and purchasing a bunch of movies all in one go.

and welcome to the forum.

DGA rules give ALL directors approval over their transfers

Spielberg has the power to direct every aspect of his film's release to video, that's the difference

I can't wait for Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. Knowing Spielberg has an upper hand in the tranfers, I am willing to bet this will an INCREDIBLE release.

That about sums it up buddy.

In addition, I hope Sony will buy up the rights to all P/DW movies when they go out of business, so we can enjoy wonderful transfers of the films on BD!

The way Paramount is going they will be another MGM. Sony will pick up their catalog and expand further to being the largest distributor of movies!
Their poor choices in film production has left them in a poor financial situation. The next 18 months may be very important to them

Don't kid yourself, this was a huge setback for Blu Ray. Not only this but the low cost HD DVD players around the corner will put Blu Ray to the test!!

Without a doubt the war would of been over this fall if the deal would not of happened. Now it's a whole new ball game. Blu Ray "has" to lower there players to match HD DVD prices.

when Universal announced in Jan a few Spielberg films in HD DVD he stopped them and an apology was made (can still be seen on the look and sound of [s]perfect[/s] mediocrity. I am sure all the parties (HD DVD bribe payers and receivers) would have rather it been a clear cut no BD deal. My guess is that Paramount learnt from Universals mistake and decided to have a side agreement with him first where he can release on BD like he wants if he allows his movies on HD DVD.
