Default Interesting thought Universal and Paramount switch?

Could this deal with Paramount actually be a signal that Univeral is on the way out of HDDUD exclusivity? Universal actually mentioned that they could not leave because it would mean that HDDVD would fold instantly. Now that Univeral doesn't have to bare the burden of Toshiba's inferior discs and being the lone exclusive studio could they possibly go Blu? Lets wait and see. Don't think for one second that they aren't jealous of the money Paramount got. Revenge is a meal best served cold.

I actually posted that thought yesterday in the massive thread when the announcement was made. That does make sense.

Also posted that thought today. Microsoft is looking for its next prey. Universal is out of HD DVD exclusivity soon, while Paramount enters it.

If I were Universal, once I'm out, I'll announce exclusivity to BD, and that way, companies like M$ can't do anything. (like Disney or Fox, not budged by HD DVD offer)

While I doubt it will happen, it could happen. The thought popped into my mind last night as well. I wonder if one exclusivity deal nears an end, another pops up. That is 300 million being paid to studios to support one format. Nice.

While I don't respect the methods (payoffs), they do have results. This would be all over if HD-DVD weren't being bribed into survival.

I am not sure what's wrong with Paramount going HD DVD exclusive.
HD DVD camp still has just 2 exclusive studios is comparison to BD.
Also BD camp has been doing well by a fairly decent margin.
This move might affect potential HI-DEF customers to an extent.
People would continue to buy titles that are available in the format of their choice and no one is going to persuade the consumer on their purchasing decisions.

Well the logic that ran through my head is that it was announced that the exclusivity deal that was struck by Paramount is for a time frame of 18 months. And I do believe in Universal's heart of hearts they want to go Blu especially since their fims tend to have a lot of extras.

I think Universal wants to go Blu because they can then release Spielberg titles.

Was there ever a time frame for Universal's deal?

Microsoft is already courting Warner, I don' think Universal is a concern to them at present. Word has it, they offered the same deal to Warner and Warner is waiting to see how the Paramount deal shakes out before making the HD-DVD exclusive deal. Based on what we have seen so far, it doesn't look too good for Paramount, so Warner may not go for it. But the BDA and Sony need to sure up Warner support or they will find themselves in big trouble.

Warner likes playing the power game. They know the BDA will offer them plenty to make it worth their while to keep milking both sides.

And I seriously doubt that Warner would settle for what paramount got, since they have 3x the HD market share

So, Microsoft has found a new apprentice in Paramount? Who will be the chosen studio to bring balance back to the Force?
