Default Leak or Screw-up? Amazon UK lists Paramount Blu-ray pre-orders!

I was browsing through the UK Blu-ray section, and I noticed a couple titles up for pre-order that caught me by surprise:

Anchorman [Blu-ray]
Quote:
RRP: £24.99
Price: £18.74 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details and conditions
You Save: £6.25 (25%)
Availability: This title will be released on March 10, 2008. Pre-order now! Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk.
Coming to America [Blu-ray]
Quote:
RRP: £24.99
Price: £18.74 & this item Delivered FREE in the UK with Super Saver Delivery. See details and conditions
You Save: £6.25 (25%)
Availability: This title will be released on March 10, 2008. Pre-order now! Dispatched from and sold by Amazon.co.uk.
Trading Places [Blu-ray]
Quote:
RRP: £24.99

Now, to the best of my knowledge, neither "Trading Places" nor "Coming to America" were ever offered on Blu-ray (or HD DVD, for that matter) in the UK like they were in the US. I do know that "Anchorman" was an HD DVD exclusive here. Just to make sure, I double-checked, and these titles are Paramount releases in the UK as well, so this isn't like "Beowulf", which is a Warner release (and therefore includes region-free Blu-ray) in the UK.

So, that leaves us with a bit of a mystery: Is Paramount (or at least Paramount UK) planning to release Blu-ray again? Frankly, IMO the more likely explanation is that Amazon just mislabeled a couple pre-orders, but with all the rumors floating around, it's just too juicy to pass up. Regardless, I added "Anchorman" to my "Beowulf" pre-order to see what happens. Here's to hoping...

alot of times amazon uses a generic date to hold that spot open and sooner or later we do get to that date in time.
or
could be being released by another distributer in the UK, ,meaning someone else may have the international rights.

No. amazon constantly puts up pre order items for items that do not yet exist. This may mean something, but in all likelyhood, it is just business as usual and nothing new has occurred.

Here is the link to Anchorman -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anchorman-Bl...0943111&sr=1-1

It says March 10th 2008....?

Hopefully the timeline will be shorter for Transformers since they were already making them when they bailed. They could just pull them out of storage and ship them to retailers. I can't wait!

I think this looks very good.

The placeholder people have brought up have no release dates or prices. Examples include Lord of the Rings,.. Star Wars,.. and other big titles.

In comparasion these titles are things that are going to be released on HD DUD about the same days as mentioned in these pages.

I think this looks very much like a leak or sorts.

EngadgetHD is now running a story on this as well. It seems this may be true more then we think. Could the final nail be closer then we all think?

I know Amazon puts up placeholders for items not even released yet, but they are always marked as "unavailable" and the only option is to give your email to be notified when it becomes available.

Not only does the Blu-ray "Anchorman" have a specific release date noted, it also lets you pre-order and enter your credit card and shipping info. This seems to go beyond the normal 'just in case it becomes available' type thing Amazon normally does.

Well, and the fact its not like Fox leased info on something BD and Amazon is setting up for it. This is for something by a studio that does not release on BD.

Very strange.

Understood.. but NEXT never hit the shops officially, especially at a major store like amazon. I even had a cancellation email sent to me to state that it would be no longer available for purchase. It was the last film along with Blades of Glory that Paramount produced before going HD-DVD only. They never made it to the shops to start with.. and if any did then they were supposed to be sent back again by the stores. It's now "in stock" and available for 1 day amazon prime delivery..
