Default Four Brothers Reviews & Discussion

Digital Audio Video Review by Chris Burton

Quote:
The blu ray is presented in 2.35.1 widescreen and encoded at 1080p. I thought this transfer was top-notch, but I did find the hd-dvd a bit more impressive. However, this blu-ray transfer features very vibrant colors and excellent black detail. The picture is crisp and clear with minimal noise and no grain. The audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 surround and it rocks the house. I was a bit disappointed that they did not feature a Digital Plus track as they did in they hd-dvd transfer. However, the action scenes are still incredibly active on the surrounds.

Nope. I just know to skip over that site

DVDTalk just received their review copies yesterday, so hopefully we'll start seeing reviews sometime next week.

After reading the Lara Croft review, I guess I lost that bet. Oh well.

well he doesn't speak to what he likes about the HD-DVD version better.
Maybe he likes THIS COLOR CASE better?

I don't know how much credit to give to this site as far as reviews are concerned... mostly because of the fact they say the HD-DVD version of Swordfish sounds better, and they are the same soundtrack... I'm sure we could do a switcher test behind the scenes, and they wouldn't know what version they were watching.

I am glad however to see the Paramount titles getting good reviews... I was scared for a bit and now that's over... So now Paramount, unleash the flood gates. Give us more releases.

the bright side of buying paramount flicks on BD is you don't have to wonder if half way through the movie if you'll have to re-sync the audio.

So I popped this one in last night and watched it in its entirety. First time seeing the movie so I have nothing to compare it to, but damn if I wasn't impressed. Looks great, sounded solid and was an enjoyable revenge flick with the right humor and plenty of basic street violence. Nice little twists and enjoyable characters.

The more I watch these films the more I'm hard pressed to watch HD anywhere else. The differences between it and cable (and Boston is NOT bit-starved, so we get good stuff) is more and more noticeable with each viewing. I can see people saying this movie doesn't "pop" or stand out in an HD way, but what it does do is provide a very solid presentation of the film as I imagine Singleton would have wanted. It's clean and clear and free of background noise. If this is what's considered average, then we're in for some real treats as time goes on.

It ain't just the Paramount discs you have to worry about that with!

I feel the same way. It wasn't a movie that made me go 'wow' that's awesome, but it was a very clean and consistant presentation of the movie. I still have yet to get my hands on Sleepy Hollow or Tomb Raider, but tomorrow I will be picking up Aeon Flux, so I will have some more Paramount titles to assess their PQ before MI: Box Set

Not just that Chris, but Im having a really hard time watching standard DVD's. I feel like everything is out of focus and it starts to give me a headache..

Four Brothers is reportedly mpeg-2...so this should put an end to the VC-1 is superior brainwashing that most have fallen for.

BD-50 will prove to be much more significant than VC-1in the near future.....wait an see .

The cut to the chase is.. "The picture quality ranks among the better titles thus far."
"The quality is consistent and nicely detailed throughout the film."

Four Brothers (Blu-ray)

Reviewed by Peter M. Bracke

Quote:
"'Four Brothers' hits Blu-ray resented in 2.35:1 widescreen and encoded as 1080p/MPEG-2 video, and like its HD DVD counterpart it looks quite nice. 'Four Brothers' has a more polished and crisp visual style than you might expect for an "urban" film, with bold colors and a rich, detailed look. Minted from the same source material as the HD DVD, there are no blemishes, dropouts or other artifacts to mar the image. Blacks are deep and consistent even in the darkest scenes, and though there is some inherent grain visible it gives the transfer the appropriate film-like look. Contrast is rather natural and sharpness generally excellent as well."

Many blurays released years and years ago such as this were missing lossless audio.

I dont get how this was just reviewed? Is this a new re-release cause I thought the original only had Dolby Digital audio?

Do any of the newer 2 movies packs have lossless audio? Or same as the original?

I just got hold of the 2012 European re-release (not released in the UK) and although it has no special features as the old US and UK release, the picture and audio quality beats the old release by far. The old release was okay picture-wise but this new release is a helluva lot better and the audio is DTS-HD MA as opposed to the standard DD on the old release.

Get it at any cost!

Big Lots has a few Blu-ray copies of this left for $5, I just saw them. It’s a double feature with Mark Wahlberg’s Shooter.
