Pauline Kael was the Lindsay Ellis of her time. People took her words as gospel. Even Roger Ebert claimed to be inspired by her. This should be something.

Tarantino has confirmed:

1. Official title is 'The Movie Critic'
2. It will be set in 1977
3. It will NOT be about Pauline Kael
4. Will likely began filming this Fall

I still haven't seen Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Agreed that Kill Bill 2 completed her story. And from what I heard, there is no way Ulma Thurman would return, even if the
[Show spoiler]kid took over the lead role. Plus the whole title theme of "Kill Bill" was fulfilled.

I bet you're right. They often say that they've had enough, but eventually new ideas pull them out of their slumber, for directors anyway.

A secret? He said in 2020 he wrote 5 scripts and would direct them all.
But it's not green lit, and not even on anyone's plate at the moment. It's as guaranteed as the 50 other projects he's teased over the years to try and stay "in the news" and create speculation among the fans who live and die on his every word.

5:00 mark. I mean he could have scrapped the 5 episodes he wrote of Bounty Law and decided to start fresh with 8 episodes of something different in a limited series that he will direct. But I seriously doubt it.

Tarantino revealed more info about the film:
"(The film) is based on a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.... He wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was as cynical as hell. His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle might be if he were a film critic... Think about Travis’s diary entries... But the porno rag critic was very, very funny. He was very rude, you know. He cursed. He used racial slurs. But his shit was really funny. He was as rude as hell... He wrote like he was 55 but he was only in his early to mid-30s. He died in his late thirties. It wasn’t clear for a while but now I’ve done some more research and I think it was it was complications due to alcoholism."

On casting:
“I haven’t decided yet but it’s going to be somebody in the 35 year-old ball park. It’ll definitely be a new leading man for me.”

He also said that it will be an American actor:
“The truth of the matter is, yes, obviously, a Brit could pull it off, but I don’t want to cast a Brit... Obviously, nothing against the Brits, but we’re living in a really weird time now. I think when people look back on this era of cinema and it’s just all these British actors pretending to be Americans and all these Australian actors pretending to be Americans, it’s like phantoms. Nobody is acting in their own voice"

Quentin Tarantino's Final Movie Scores Massive Win: Is Box Office Triumph Assured?

Quote:
While production on "The Movie Critic" hasn't started, Tarantino's latest is set to receive a $20.2 million tax subsidy from The California Film Commission, per The Hollywood Reporter. The outlet says that the film will generate around $128.4 million in qualified in-state funding. While it's unclear what a final budget looks like for "The Movie Critic," it's clear that a decent amount of faith is being put into Tarantino's final flick. But can it live up to the director's other box office successes?

Sure, why not?

I’d invest in Tarantino’s final film too.

If it’s as great as that film I’m sure it will as well.

Tarantino has a big enough fan base and name recognition that investing in one of his films seems perfectly reasonable.

How could he be offered the role if theres SAG strike currently going on? I call BS on these articles.

Plus Tarantino recently did an interview where he talks about the film very briefly and says he has an idea of who he wants to offer it to but with a strike he can't talk to any actors about roles
