Default The Movie Critic | Quentin Tarantino

Quote:
Quentin Tarantino is back for the last time.

The filmmaker behind some of the most indelible movies of the last three decades, Pulp Fiction and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood among them, is putting together what sources say is being billed as his final movie.

The Movie Critic is the name of the script that Tarantino wrote and is prepping to direct this fall, according to sources.

Logline details are being kept in a suitcase but sources describe the story as being set in late 1970s Los Angeles with a female lead at its center.

The project does not have a studio home; it could go out to studios or buyers as early as this week, according to sources. [source]

Seeing some people disappointed it's not Kill Bill vol. 3. Good. It should be left alone.

I don't believe this is in any way going to be his last film. I believe he'll pull at least a couple of Miyazaki's.

He already has a TV show in the pipeline. He'll find excuses to keep doing what he does.

This feels perfect for his last film. It’s no secret the one critic he’s really loved over the years was Pauline Kael. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if this ends up at least loosely based on her life.

A lot of people seem to fell this way but I think he's as serious as a heart attack on this whole only doing ten movies thing.

He's already written a few books and has a podcast now. He seems pretty content just doing those things while also spending more time with his family.

He could end up directing some episodes from that series he's working on but I feel confident that this really will end up being his last movie.

Tarantino was never going to do a Kill Bill 3. He always talks about doing a sequel or prequel to his movies when they come out and they never actually happen.

I am surprised that his last movie is going to be a biopic.

Shame his Star Trek venture never took off

Also heard he's working on some streaming series... so yeah, maybe this is his last movie-movie... for now

That'd be interesting as I know of her for two reasons: her sensationalized statement about Nixon's election, and her screeds against Hollywood fetishizing hyperviolence.

Another critic who helped form the "rule of thumb" that the more the critics like a film, the more Middle America dislikes it (and vice-versa)?

Can't wait. Tarantino has never made a bad movie. Even his "worst" are entertaining and worth watching.

It would have been fun to revisit Kill Bill though.

I'm hoping it's more of a Brian De Palma type of thing, where a woman critic is stalked by someone for giving bad reviews and it becomes a giallo type of thing.

There actually is a famous story where Janet Maslyn, who was a critic for the NY Times for many years, claimed that she received a series of creepy late night calls and threatening correspondence from an unidentified man. She fully believes that it was writer/director James Toback, after she gave a bad review to his 1978 film, "Fingers". (I love that film, by the way, LOL). But he is apparently a world class creep, that got MeToo'ed into oblivion a few years ago when women came forward with hundreds of allegations against him. Maslyn believes to this day that he was her stalker, but she could never prove it.

I'm just pondering here, I have no idea what Tarantino plans to do here.

It'll be interesting, either way, I'm sure.

Super excited for this! I was hoping he would do a straight-up horror movie since it's a genre he hasn't really tackled, but I'm down for this. I kinda hope he does a Kill Bill Vol.3 novel at some point (also maybe the Vega Brothers idea he had years ago would make a nice novel). I like dkelly26666's idea for it being a De Palma type movie. If he ended up doing something with a similar vibe as Dressed to Kill/Blow Out, it would be amazing.
