I recently replaced the HDMI cable that connects my Denon AVR-S950H receiver to my Epson Pro Cinema 6050UB projector, but while so far everything works properly again, one thing doesn't, and it's this.
I had it hooked directly into the receiver, and while I can get sound, I get no picture. I'm guessing this is a player picture because I can get still picture from the setup I have for VHS, Betamax, and Laserdisc, and I can even hook my MacBook Air from which I am typing this into the same receiver and project its picture onto my screen and play its audio through the same speakers. But the UHD player, the newest component in this setup, is holding out on me. What do I do? |

Test the easiest things first:
Make sure that the HDMI cable that you are using supports 4K video, namely a premium high speed hdmi cable that supports speeds of 18 Gbps or an ultra high speed hdmi cable that supports 48 Gbps (designed for 8K). Plain high speed HDMI cables only support 10.2 Gbps and standard speed hdmi cables only support 4.95 Gbps. See this article: https://www.hdmi.org/resource/cables If your hdmi cable is, in fact, a premium or ultra high speed hdmi cable and you still have this problem, find a way to try another premium or ultra high speed hdmi cable. It is possible to get a bad hdmi cable of any bandwidth rating. |

I bought two. The one I'm using now I bought at Walmart because the first one, which I bought at Best Buy, wasn't long enough to extend to my projector without moving either it or the receiver. The shorter cable is fast enough for 10K! The long one was 50 feet long and I only bought it because neither Walmart or Best Buy had any 25 foot cables that would have been an adequate speed.

Passive copper hdmi cables should be no longer than 10 feet for 4K video. Beyond that length requires a more specialized solution. Active fiber optic hdmi cables are sometimes recommended for long cable runs, but these have an audio downside to them or you can use hdmi signal boosters as described in the article below. https://help.honeyoptics.com/support...s%20(50%20feet) Last edited by Vilya; 09-12-2023 at 02:19 AM. |

A lot of them are certified. Although Walmart and Best Buy sell HDMI cables, they aren't always reliable. Plus, they can cost an arm and a leg compared to the ones at Monoprice. |

You might want to visit the projector owner's threads and see what they recommend specifically as they have found solutions to the problems posed by long hdmi cable runs. Ask any of these guys and they can probably steer you to an easy answer. You could also ask any of these forum members directly, just to name a few: gotmule, sapiendut, or Wendell R. Breland. They all use projectors and they are each quite knowledgeable on all things home theater. https://forum.blu-ray.com/forumdisplay.php?f=68 Last edited by Vilya; 09-12-2023 at 02:37 AM. |

I could be wrong about the problem entirely, but ruling out hdmi issues is among the easiest things to test. Any one of those three guys that I named would be happy to help you and they each have a lot of expertise.

Make sure the HDMI Port you have your cable plugged up to is the Video/Audio port and not the Audio Only Port on the back of the 420. Also, make sure too that in the 420’s settings that the Main HDMI Port is set to Video/Audio.
Your Denon receiver may also need to be checked to make sure the HDMI port the player is plugged up to is allowing a 4K signal to pass through it. Sometimes by default, the receiver won’t allow 4K signals to pass through and you have to change the settings manually so it will accept that signal. |

If your firmware is not up to date update the firmware. If that does not help just keep trying to play the disc till it goes away. If your player is connected to the internet disconnect it see if that helps.

I wonder about your disc more than the player. I have one blu ray (Crank 2) that can't load without a USB drive in the player because it has bad BD live encoding. |
