Does anyone know if Peter Jackson's King Kong Blu-ray release has that particular scene in it? Or even as a special feature?
I heard the 2-disc SE DVD had it, so I really hope that the BD does as well. |

No, not the regular scene where they fight of all the insects.
Sorry should have been more specific. Rumor is there was a scene in the original 1933 King Kong with a giant spider, that was too cruel and had to be cut out. - http://www.wired.com/table_of_malcon...ing_kongs_lost Now Peter Jackson "re-shot" this scene using stop-motion animation as a homage to the original film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0832446/ I am just wondering if this is included at all, because I am very anxious to see this ![]() |

I'm pretty sure that's just an extra on the 1933 King Kong DVD. So you'll have to get that DVD to see it or try you tube. Last edited by davidthenikonuser; 07-30-2009 at 11:06 PM. |

The 1933 KK Se DVD has a recreated "Spider Pit" sequence shot by Peter Jackson. Hia animators used mockups of the original puppets and performed the attack 1930s style. He based the recreation off the script and the few still shots still in existence. As said before the sequence was deleted and is assumed lost forever.
And Im sure you know he used the sequence for the remake as well. Last edited by Dj Matt B; 07-30-2009 at 11:16 PM. |

I will see if I can help you guys.
The pit sequence was all write up for the 1933 version of King Kong but was never filmed or if I recall some shots were made but was then abandon. Some of the reason was money of course and movie lenght. There is an actual photo of the spider from 1933, it was in a magazine story print years later. When you look at the special features of King Kong 2005, Peter Jackson at one point is showing that picture. He mention that the entire sequence was written down in 1933 but was never completed. What he wanted to do for his movie was to filmed the pit sequence and he did. Did he do it exactly like it was written in 1933? I am not sure, he might have expended on it and I am sure film historians would be able to know much more easily. In the special features Peter Jackson mention that he did not do a giant spider sequence since it was never truly written down in 1933. A model was made, some ideas were talked about but from what I remember him saying it was never fully completed, at least on paper. So what he did, him along with his crew re-created the models from 1933, put on cotumes from the orignal movie and sort of re-created what it might have looked like if it would have been done in 1933. It was part of the special features of the DVD but I am not sure if it's part of the BD as I forgot to check. I guess I would have to pull out the King Kong BD and check it out. Actually, many sources argee that it was filmed, and cut. Cooper (the director) made conflicting statements over the years which added to the confusion, but in some interviews he confirmed that it had once existed. Most believe that it was actually shot before the main film as part of an fx test/demo reel, and then worked into the script. There was an excellent (and exhaustive) 3-part investigative article about it in Filmfax Magazine a few months ago. |
