The recent remake of Friday the 13th was released on BD by Warner Bros. in the United States, but Paramount is handling it's release in Europe.
While the US release includes 2 cuts of the film, only the longer cut is mentioned on the press release for Paramount's disc. Some stores are already shipping the UK release of the film, and I was wondering if anyone already checked it out, and could confirm: -if the theatrical cut is also included on the disc? -if there are any improvements regarding the US disc? The Region A Blu-Ray had 2 cuts of the film on a single disc, and they were apparently different encodes (not branching). If the UK disc only includes one of the cuts, they either improved the bitrate a bit, or maybe they simply turned it into a single layer disc (hopefully that's not the case)? Additionally, does anyone know if the differences between the 2 cuts are mere extensions to existing scenes (making the theatrical cut's inclusion more or less redundant), or do these cuts feature different takes/alternate scenes/...? |

crazymanwitt, were did you get those specs from? I seriously doubt the UK release is 1 minute shorter than the US release.
I was curious about the UK edition because Paramount's releases are usually better (PQ wise) than Warner's (see the different releases of Zodiac, and even the recent Watchmen BDs, although unfortunately Paramount opted to release the theatrical cut instead of the director's cut, and the US release). |

Remember that NTSC running time differs from PAL running time. PAL runs a bit faster, so you can't really compare running times just like that.

If the movie is 1080p/24 (Which this movie is) then the speed of the movie is the same globally. NTSC and PAL arguments don't exist anymore. In the realm of HD there is no PAL/NTSC unless your talking about extra content that is shown in NTSC or PAL. 24 frames a second is 24 frames a second. |

From what I understand, the European Paramount release is only the Theatrical cut with an AVC encode (runtime of 1 hour 37 minutes 10 seconds).
The US disc released by Warner contains The Killer Cut (runtime of 1 hour 45 minutes 30 seconds) as well as the Theatrical, both with VC1 encodes. The Paramount disc likely looks better and has a higher bitrate for the movie (I haven't seen it) but, much like Watchmen, only has the Theatrical cut. |

after checking the bbfc again it says extended cut main feature 101m 5s and FRIDAY THE 13TH [Extended Cut, Picture in Picture commentary] is 105m a direct link showing the features on the disk which they rated http://bbfc.co.uk/website/Classified...7?OpenDocument So yes the UK version is Cut. at least the US version is region free and works out about 1.50 euro more to import it. So the UK Blu is actually the theatrical version of the movie?
If this is the case why is it called 'Extended'? If it was the true KILLER CUT it would be 105mins? ![]() |
