Default Hum Noise coming from My new PANAMAX 5400pm

I got a Hum Noise coming from My new PANAMAX 5400pm. Only if my Pioneer Plasma is On with DIRECTV on. I don't know if it's the DIRECTV or the TV that cause it to hum. And the Hum noise is not loud. But loud enough to here it when it is dead silence in the room. Any thoughts???? Should I take it back and get another one? ps. I had a monster before and I didn't here it make noise..

I would suggest that you do if you still can. This is all solid state equipment so it doesn't sound like it should be doing what you describe. Could be a defective unit.

It is also possible that there is a ground loop issue that the Panamax is not able to remove. Ground loop problems can be difficult to identify and to resolve.

Have you tried to see if you have the same problem if you plug the TV and the DirecTV receiver directly into the wall? Try the TV alone and then with the DirecTV receiver turned on.

If you haven't already done so, check the Ground Hum & Ground Loop Isolators thread. It has a sticky in this section.

If the problem is only when DirectTV box is connected, it is likely that a ground-loop may be getting into the TV through the DirectTV signal path. Disconnect the DirtectTV box totally from the TV and check. If okay, TV should be fine.

It is possible that DirectTv signal cable is grounded somewhere else in the house. If that is the case, inserting a ground loop isolator in the DirectTV signal path (i.e. the signal input to the box) should fix it.

It is worth diagnosing - using above discussed steps. Most likely it is not the TV.

I have the same problem. I originally thought it was my first power filter which I sapped out for a 2nd power filter (sorry, the manufacturer slips my mind). I've since switched to Panamax, first with the 5400, then the 5300 as Panamax says this device will filter everything out.

Hum comes from bright screens (menus, flashes, etc)
It didn't. The hum is still there. My trouble shooting scenarios are as follows:
- locate hum, as it turns out its not only my Panamax which hums, but its also my Servo 15
- Have PDP5020 plugged directly into a wall outlet and all other gear plugged into Panamax, still a hum
-Turn off all devices plugged into Panamax (power killed, only leaving power on the Panamax) Panamax hums
-unplug 12V trigger and RCA feed to Server15, hum still exists
-there is no ground to remove from the Servo
-Attempted to isolate the ground from the PDP5020, hum still exists
-put in addtional Panamax filter between PDP5020 and Panamax 5400, hum still exists
-run extension cord across house (only powering PDP5020), hum drastically reduces
-Run all equipment on Panamax (including PDP5020) on new circuit, hum still exists
-Hum comes from any bright image on PDP5020 including Panasonic Bluray player, DTV receiver and Arcam DVD player

I've tried nearly every scenario that I can think of, its all down to the PDP5020 inducing a hum.

This is way above and beyond the average hum of a plasma TV. You can't hear a plasma hum very easily (if you can) when a sound system is at any level above low volume. This hum is audible at higher volumes (even the girlfriend hears the hum). The hum does not get louder if the system is turned up, its a constant loudness that fades in an out (very annoying).

Has anyone else seen this issue? Was it ever resolved?
