Default Name calling or just fair game?

I was wondering if all the comments I've been reading are full of name calling (HD DUD) or just fair game for this format war? It seems as though some people post just to throw a jab at Toshiba and HD DVD. Yes, I believe what they did to Paramount wasn't cool, (I sent my e-mail to Paramount expressing displeasure too), but I'm beginning to think we, Blu Team, are acting just a bit childish with some of the name calling.

Ban him!!!

Seriously though, welcome to adulthood. Remember when you were a kid and running around in circles screaming at nothing in particular "just because"? Your body gets bigger but the same need to let loose will never goes away, unless you are Kimi Räikkönen. You don't want to be like the "iceman", trust me.

Go get drunk, pee on yourself and welcome to being mature.

No don't ban him. Part of me believes calling HD DVD, HD DUD is kind of being sarcastic. I know that I don't personally think anything bad of somebody who wants HD DVD, its their choice. My problem is calling somebody a troll and saying that they should die, that is a problem. I am sure that everybody on the HD forums have clever little knick names for us. Oh well, I am happy just to enjoy my superior technology.

Personally, I feel that the whole idea of a "format war" is ridiculous, and I don't take seriously any post that calls the other format HD DUD. Likewise, I skip over any post that refers to Blu-ray as "blur-ray" or any such nonsense.

In the past, film-lovers have tended to unite... first with Laserdisc, then with DVD. Now, they're split... and have taken sides with something as silly as an optical disc format. The charge is sadly being led by videogamers... with the PS3 and Xbox 360 fans leading the way on behalf of their respective companies. Film lovers seem to have been left on the sidelines in an effort to appeal to the "gamer" demographic, which both sides believe is feeding their cause.

Whatever the "other side" does, I don't feel that dropping to their level accomplishes anything, and just makes us all alienate ourselves from the mainstream even further. Honestly, what percentage of Americans know about the Paramount "deal," or which studios support which format? Less than 1%? Less than 1/2 of 1%? We're arguing with each other without purpose. The rest of the world couldn't care less. We argue wth each other to justify our own purchases and prefences... with no hope of convincing those on the "other side." People are going into anxiety attacks (on both sides) for no reason, and with no hope of convincing other of the purpose of their cause.

It's all in good fun. Mostly I use it in a teasing tone and never consistent. There are some trolls on aVS who refuse to spell Blu-ray with the hyphen, if not a second R, without a peep from the mods, of course.

I dont think a ban is necessary here.

However, you can call it whatever you like. Whether or not you feel it justified is up to you. I feel the same way about format choice. If you want HD DVD then by all means, I would suggest you buy it. (although every time someone buys HD DVD, God kills a kitten!! ) If you think it is superior, then go for it. If you think we are bashing DUD just to bash them, again, that is your choice.

That is the best part about forums. They are open topics where people can just ramble about their opinions, thoughts, and ideas. I personally would love to see what the HD DUD fanboys say about us!

half and half. sometimes calling FUD is legit (i.e. amir at avs) but the constant casual hd-dud is rhetorical rather than critical and to me, personally (i can only speak for myself), it gets annoying...

LOL!

It's all innocent fun! I don't think HD-DVD gets offended by calling it that...since it isn't a person! If it's supporters get offended... "sticks and stones..... sticks, and, stones"!!!!

yeah sometimes the name calling is a bit overboard. I come here to read news and also look for technical data or get suggestions on equipment. Usually if I see a flame thread I just stay away.

I own only Blu-ray, but I think the use of HD DUD on this site lowers the user's credibility in my eyes. A lot of us are refugees from other sites such as AVS - resorting to name calling is doing exactly what we were trying to get away from. Keep it positive and high road in posts.

I agree 100%. The mods need to start doing something around here aside from closing threads from acused "Trolls." It really makes this website look very simple minded and short sighted when a bunch of people are name calling an inanimate object names. And no, I don't mean the format is dead.

It's gotten a bit old here lately. I agree with GasCat however, that some blowing off steam is good, though. Perhaps it should be regulated to the appropriate threads.

Some have said they used to get good info from AVS, but left due to all the FUD. Let's keep Blu-ray.com from becoming just like that.

Isn't there an HD rant thread for that? I've never actually looked at it because I thought it was for that lol

Same thoughts here. I think I looked at it a few times, but had to remind myself about wasting time on here as opposed to just getting the great stuff I came here for (which is missing right now, what happened to the insiders?).

There isn't a Format War?
Both the BDA and the HD-DVD Forum believes it would be best for their individual bottom lines if there was 2 competing HDM formats?
Is that a joke?

The most profitable format in history (DVD) in no small part succeeded by its lack of competition.
Or is this news for some folks?
