Question StudioCanal, Canal+, Universal

Is this true or not? I was told last month StudioCanal will go neural and will start releasing their films on BD by this holiday season. I was also told StudioCanal owns 20% stock of Universal, how would this effect Universal. And why cannot StudioCanal release their films here in US and Canada directly, instead by Universal.

It is true that Studiocanal has gone neutral. I don't know about any ownership percentage that they have in Universal, but I haven't heard anything to indicate Universal is going neutral.

Vivendi owns StudioCanal and 20% of Universal.

Well, this is more official, considering Wiki can be altered by any one.

"About Universal Studios Home Entertainment

Universal Studios Home Entertainment is a unit of Universal Pictures, a division of Universal Studios (www.universalstudios.com). Universal Studios is a part of NBC Universal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience. Formed in May 2004 through the combining of NBC and Vivendi Universal Entertainment, NBC Universal owns and operates a valuable portfolio of news and entertainment networks, a premier motion picture company, significant television production operations, a leading television stations group, and world-renowned theme parks. NBC Universal is 80%-owned by General Electric, with 20% owned by Vivendi."

Even more official would be Vivendis own homepage...

Vivendi holds 20% of NBC Universal, a world leader in media with activities in film and television production, television channel distribution and theme park operations.
And yes, Studio Canal is going to release some Blu-rat titles soon. They have never been exclusive to HD-DVD. They have just not released any Blu-ray titles up until now. Vivendi was forced to sell Universal then they had economic difficulties. They are in much better shape now.

You do NOT necessarily have to wait for Studio Canal to release it. OPTIMUM-UK are their official offshoot in the Kingdom and they ARE releasing on Blu-Ray (Pan's upcoming UK release is theirs).

With other words...most ALL top Studio Canal titles will be available through Optimum on Blu-Ray. It is when rather than if!
