Germany Three Days of the Condor (Kinowelt/Arthaus/StudioCanal)

German Title: Die Drei Tage des Condors

I was able to take a really quick glimpse into this 18th of September release yesterday.

Comes in a digipak with sleeve and a 20-page booklet, is region locked AB, languages and subtitles are only changeable from the menu not during the movie.

I flipped through the film to get a feeling for picture quality (needs more viewing without time constraint):
- soft graining visible (+)
- sharpness could be better at times
- when focussing the background, the foreground is very noise at times (especially indoor shots)
- night shots tend to be a bit too noisy
- blacks are not very saturated
On Blu-ray.com's scale, I would rate picture quality with a 3.5.

I was not able to test the DTS sound last night, feels ok, voices clearly understandable - needs more listening without time constraint.

Out of the bonus material, I just watched the original trailer which is not in HD and here the difference between the film in 1080p and this trailer in (maybe) DVD quality is really enormous.

The Kinowelt release definitely beets anything released on DVD for sure but it's bought dearly with at about 26 Euro.

I would love to know how the image compares with the USA release.

Note also that this Studio Canal release has extras where the USA release has none.

Maybe Beaver will have a comparison up in the near future.

You're right about the bonus stuff. On top of my head there is three featurettes, the trailer, BD-Live content and an audio commentary track by Sydney Pollack on the Blu-ray disc.

I assumed your link on the Le Mepris thread was a link to a product page for Condor; was unclear from your message, however am grateful for your comments here.

I think there is a 40 min Pollack doco as well (or is that the commentary).
And if it's like the other Studio Canal releases in this set it will have a printed booklet inside as well.

SC have done a fantastic job with these.

Is that extras-filled disc region free?

The German, French, and UK releases are identical. So, getting a copy from Amazon.UK is probably your best bet.

I don't believe this came out in the UK. Certainly wasn't listed with the other StudioCanal collection titles.

It did appear to come out in Australia, where its a JB HiFi Exclusive,

I'm new to the purchasing import copies of Blu-ray movies but am I to assume that for those of you that don't live in the UK/Germany/France, that you're able to make new accounts on the Amazon sites for those countries and ship it that way. I'm interested in (among a ton of other films) purchasing '3 Days of the Condor' and 'Breathless' in their Studio Canal digibook editions.

This WAS available on amazon.co.uk but seems to perhaps be OOP already? They do have one (Dutch) copy available from a 3rd party seller for 30 pounds...

Good evening,

You could log into any of the Amazon sites (France, UK, Germany, China) using your US account info. The site would even automatically convert the price of the products you wish to purchase in US dollars.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to PM me.

And welcome to the community,Murkurial
