Same. I thought it was great. It wiped the floor with suckformers 2. Tfs1 was good. Tfs2 sucked. Gi joe was the summer action flick I wanted.

I liked it, but it had some flaws. It was still a fun movie and my inner child was happy with what I saw.

In no way was this better than either Transformers movie. Now, I will freely admit to being a MUCH bigger Transformers fan than I am a G.I. Joe fan, but the two Transformers movies were better IMO.

My main gripe is I thought the CGI in some scenes was down right terrible and it was too futuristic. It wouldn't have been a problem if they had explained where the weapons and equipment came from, but we were just supposed to accept that they had these weapons in what looked like our current society. Maybe I missed something and they did explain this, so feel free to correct me.

This is not to say I hated the movie, far from it, but I thought these things were distracting.

However, Sienna Miller looks a-f'n-mazing as Baroness. My God is she a beauty.

This is kind of a general statement but
[Show spoiler]I hate when female villains are turned good or portrayed as tweeners at the end of movies? Catwoman in Batman Returns and now Baroness in G.I. Joe are my two main examples. Why can't they just stay bad?

Also,
[Show spoiler]can someone please tell me if they changed the relationships from the 1980s cartoon, like was Cobra Commander Baroness' brother?
It's been a long time and I can't remember everything.

To each his own. I was totally souped for GI Joe but I didnt like it. It is just my opinion. As far as some of my collection being awful movies. I cant argue with that but I have the blu ray bug when it comes to PQ and AQ.

I was very pleasantly surprised. It might be the second or third best non summer comedy besides Star Trek and maybe Transformers.

Smile A few things about the film:

1) The story takes place in the near future and not currently in the year 2009 which explains all the cool weapons/ vehicles.
2) Several good action sequences with heavy casualties from both sides unlike the A-Team (tv show) where everyone can't hit there target and nobody gets hurt.
3) I wasn't that disappointed about Cobra Commander's look after the action toy line revealed his appearance. Once you see the film then it makes more sense as with Destro too.
4) I felt like a kid again as I was watching this film and it gave me a star wars like euphoria.
5) I'm glad to hear that a sequel is planned because this felt more like a setup story for Cobra and not the final showdown.

I wasn't bored and it was well paced with a lot of action. It wasn't that cheesy, this film could have turned out much worse but it didn't. I give it a 8 out of 10.

haven't you seen the 80's film. I thought that the movie actually met what the movie should target.

My memory is very fuzzy but I have seen all things G.I. JOE back in the day. I'm abit confused about your post. Characters died in this film which I didn't expect.

Ok, so they said the "knowing is half the battle" line and they also said "Yo, Joe!" and mentioned the "kung-fu grip". Overall it was an entertaining movie, cheesy as hell but entertaining. And I have to agree with whoever mentioned the Norton product placement...that was hilarious. I thought, "You mean to tell me that huge super computer with all the cool gadgets and abilities and the only thing guarding it is Norton?" At least it wasn't running Vista (or Windows 7)!

I really liked it alot and my buddy did too. Great action flick. I was a huge Gi-Joe fan growing fan and had huge reservations going into this. I actually thought when they first starting trailers and info about the movie that it looked like a big pile of dog sh*t. WOW was I ever wrong, and happily so. This is my second biggest surprise sleeper hit ever for me, the first being Iron Man. Going into both I thought, meh it probably won't be very good and I came out of both liking them alot. Sienna Milller and Rachel Nichols are smoking hot in this!

Saw it. Was definately better than Transformers 2, in my opinion.

It cover more ground in an hour than TF2 did.

Overall, I thought it was okay. It had good action sequences and I wanted to like it more, but it just had something missing. I wouldn't say it is the best movie of the summer but it is not the disaster that people were making it out to be.

I loved the comics more than the cartoon show in the 80's. The thing missing in the movie was personality (especially on the Joe side). Tatum, Quaid, the actors that played Heavy Duty and Breaker were all bland and gave wooden performances. I hate to say it, but Marlon Wayans was probably the only guy for the Joe side that had any personality.

Maybe not a day one blu-ray purchase for me, but I think I would eventually get it.

I posted part of this in another thread, but I don't care. I wanted to get this out.

This movie was trash. My worst expectations came true. What had the potential to be a real engaging, emotional action packed film turned out to be a hammy, campy, G.I. Joke.

[Show spoiler]Cobra Commander is the Baroness' brother? WTF!!

A group of rogue commandos are killing U.S. Military and Heavy Duty can't shoot one of them because she is a girl? The movie is full of this kind of stuff.

Very wooden acting. What do you expect from the "Yo, yo, yo what up dawg!" guy who's only fit to do rap/dance movies (Tatum Channing), and of course the unfunny Marlon Wayans. What ever happend to Dennis Quaid? Did he get hit on the head and forget how to act?

Zartan' disguises. Teh dude didn't disguise himself as s**t until the very end. and will he be stuck that way until "The Doctor" a.k.a. Cobra Commander changes him back.

Terrible, terrible, terrible CGI. The underwater scene at the end was so bad it is just unforgivable.

The underwater base gets destroyed by sinking ice. Sinking ice??!!

Snake Eyes can't talk (thank goodness) but they went off and gave him lips? WTF is the deal with Hasbro and Paramount coming together and giving lips to some of their most famous characters who never had them (e.g. Optimus Prime)

I can go on and on, but you've been warned. Watch it at your own risk.

Its a movie, dude, lighten up. I hope you also hated TF2, cause that was way worse. GI Joe was a fun movie, who cares about the changes made? It had good action, good acting and a storyline that actually made sense. I recommend to anyone who like good action films.

If you recall what happened originally with the cartoons, and the film (80s) you will see something different.

You should have kept your expectations in check. An emotional G.I. Joe film? Really? You saw the trailers and said "yeah, that should be really emotional"? It's a goofy harmless popcorn movie. To expect anything else seems fruitless.

Actually, I knew it was going to suck before I went to see it. But being a child of the 80s and having grown up loving the toys, comics, and cartoon I felt compelled to go see this travesty anyway.

My point, though admittedly not clear, is the concept of a G.I. Joe movie has the potential to be emotional and more engaging. Sommers blew it with this one.

Just got back from my screening. And to sum up my feelings:

G.I. Joe was emphatically idiotic, entirely deplorable,... but most of all... A HELL OF A LOT OF FUN!!! A lighthearted slice of whimsy :-)

That constitutes as a big thumbs up from me!!!

How was it gauged against Transformers 2?
I want an idea of how much I'm going to like and and we seem to think the same regarding RotF.

Depends on what franchise was your favored one growing up!

I'm obviously a major Transformers fan, So I lack the hang ups that a hardcore Joe fan might harbor for this movie

One almighty plus for Joe is the visuals in the action sequences are easy to keep up with... No OTT camera jerking! (BAY!!! I'm looking at you right now )
