Default OFFICIAL: G.I. JOE The Movie

This was one of my favorite toys growing up and I had a whole lot of them. I have to admit I am really looking forward to this movie and can't wait to see the trailer premier during the Super Bowl this weekend. I had a few favorite characters but primarily Snake-Eyes was first followed by Destro. Who else is excited about this movie and who was your favorite character?

Yea, I've seen some of the cast and I have to say I wasn't to thrilled about Marlon Wayans. He's good in his brother's movies but I just can't picture him in this role. You never know, hopefully he pulls it off. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the whole movie!

Well Marlon was in Requiem For A Dream so he would be the least of my worries. And Dennis Quaid has always been good enough.

But the rest of the cast? i'd be a bit worried

Dennis Quaid is a good actor, but really looks out of place in that uniform.

He looks like he is going through some mid life crisis and is trying to be hip.

I was more worried about political correctness and a spineless director making this stink. Remeber that in the world of Political Correctness, America = Bad. In the early stages of production the script was written where G.I. Joe was supposed to be a "Joint Operating Entity" based in Sweden instead of the "Real American Hero" that practically anyone who had ever been aware of G.I. Joe knew them as.

Fortunately, Hasbro came in and demanded that they keep it the way that it always has been or risk losing their trademark. As much as I'm surprised to say it, this has a much higher suck potential then Transofrmers because even though Transformers is Michael Bay, you know you're going to get a thin plot that builds toward huge cool action. Here we've got a doofus who has already displayed a willingness to revise the purpose of the character for no good reason. I wonder if the explosive final scene will be where G.I. Joe goes to sensitivity training because even though Cobra is a "ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world" (according to the old cartoon intro) that maybe G.I. Joe risks offending them with their guns blazing, heavy handed tactics.

I loved G.I. Joe when I was younger, but somehow I think this movie is going to stink. I'll reserve judgement until I see some footage, though.

For being a bunch of highly trained commandos and tier one terrorists, those Joe and Cobra guys sure couldn't hit squat with their rifles.

Saw this on a message board a while back.

Quote:
So the story I heard was that the studio tested just the trailer before Xmas and the results were SO bad that they are scared s**tless that the film is gonna bomb. That Lorenzo is trying to see if he can get his producing credit removed and just act as a studio exec. That this crap cost $150m and they are going to all be in deep s**t.
Supposedly Steven Sommers also supposedly had this to say about it.

Quote:
Sommers adds that G.I. Joe, which also stars Dennis Quaid and features a cameo from his Mummy star Brendan Fraser, was partly inspired by the Sean Connery-era James Bond movies. "I always loved the old Bonds," he says. "It's funny now how Bond wants to be Bourne. I loved Quantum of Solace, but it was like, man, this is a completely different movie to the Bonds I grew up with. In a very contemporary way, G.I. Joe is inspired by the memory of the kind of movies I saw when I was younger. I remember being in the theater for Thunderball and the big underwater battle at the end of that movie just blew my socks off. In G.I. Joe, there's an underwater battle under the polar icecap that's Thunderball times 10!"
Fellas and gals, considering the cast and crew and add to that what has supposedly been leaked, this movie does NOT sound promising.

I hope I'm wrong.

Anyone that has read the screenplay can tell you, this movie is going to be a complete let down.

I have a copy if anyone's interested.

Assuming the film survives just enough, that could be a possible sequel...

G.I. Joe 2: Cobra Secret Scat Gun Interdiction
