The best LCDs are becoming comparable in terms of PQ to plasmas, however they are significantly more expensive. If you have a limited budget, like you and most people do, you will get the greatest value from a Plasma television.

There are situations were LCDs would be preferable over plamsas, but those are often limited to very bright rooms or the display being under direct sunlight. Some people prefer the saturated and bright images of LCDs, but for picture quality it begins and ends with blacks.

It bears pointing out that only the absolute best LCDs are even beginning to touch the PQ of a plasma. I know you already said this, but I wanted to add emphasis where needed.

It also bears mentioning that plasma displays are [still] consistently at the top of lists compiled by professional reviewers around the world...in many cases, occupying the first three, four or five spots.

And yes, they do all of this while costing significantly less (Kuro not included...that was a pretty pricey plasma).

Most times, if it seems too good to be true, it is.

paypal maybe, but it might just be half a scam. I've seen that in the past. they may advertise that model but send you the cheapest entry level model instead. So IDRK if paypal would refund you in that case...........

You have a PS3 - a good BD player that outputs 1080p. Don't skimp on the display.

As for Samsung, I have first-hand experience with the customer service departments of both Samsung and Panasonic. I will never buy a Samsung product again...I will always recommend Panasonic.

This one is the only one in the list worth talking about IMHO...but the G10 I posted on page 1 is way more display for less money ($2 will get you two Whopper Jrs at BK ).

I COMPLETELY support this decision. If you get an LCD, go Sony.

Yeah....kinda sucks, because they make some damn nice displays, but they just don't have a clue when it comes to service after the sale.

The next display may very well be LCD, based either on size (small bedroom set) or being logo/menu/4:3-proof (future family-room - probably stay on a dvd menu or old cartoon all day). I'll look at Sony and Toshiba when the time comes...I've had good luck with Toshiba's CRT sets, so I can't count them out.

What helps confirm the decision that I made in a Sony LCD, is the number of refurbs you can purchase from Samsung vs Sony, and honestly, Toshiba as well. I see a TON of Sammy refurbs and not nearly as many Sony's or Toshiba.
Samsung makes nice looking TV's, but the quality of the components are suspect, from my perspective, hence the amount of refurbs.

I agree that the G10 would be a better TV but the title of his post is why I put this link in here. I know it is only $95 but a lot of times on this site people will ask for an opinion with a budget and people start giving these products that can't be found anywhere near their budget.

Again I know it is only $95 but the OP asked for our opinions on the "Best TV to buy with a $1200 cap" and the Panasonic S1 at Best Buy sale would be my opinion.
