Default Question about Blu-ray regions.

Hi there,

Back in the days of dvd (i know, back then ) We needed to buy all zone dvd players to view dvd's that were from other locations.

Is this the case with blu ray discs? I read a lot of reviews but they say that you can use your ps3 or any blu ray player. They say region a... etc... is jsut a marketing term, and can be played anywhere.

I live in north america. Are there really zones in blu ray? Any I can't play? Or is blu ray finally universal?

Thanks in advance

Blu-ray does use regions. Its not just a marketing scheme.

If you see this symbol:

It means it plays on all region systems A B and C

If it just has one or two of the letters i.e. A and B, that means its plays on just region A and B systems.

Blu-ray regions break down into this:

Region A: America, Japan, Corea, South East Asia
Region B: Grĝenland, Europa, Africa, Middle East, Australia, New Zealand
Region C: China, India, Russia, + a few others remaining in Asia

Here's a map that shows it even better:

Some Blu-ray discs are region free.
