Default 5.1 problem

I am only using 5.1 setup for my pioneer sc-05 but when I try to play a blu ray movie that only has 7.1 audio my voice audio for the movie does not work at all from netflix. Is there a setting I can make on the receiver to allow me to hear the audio voices from the blu ray movie?

Unhappy SC05 needs firmware update

I bought mine 6-2009 & discovered it will not decode DTS HD MA 2.0. Had to switch the BD player from bitstream to PCM to hear anything. Pioneer says there are several FW updates & that should fix this as well as other potential issues. Needed to bring it in to an authorized Pioneer service center. They say it takes 2-3 hours to update FW. Still waiting for service to finish been 3 days.
Pioneer says their newer AVRs can be updated by the owner & do not need to go into service center. Some users have attempted to update FW on the SC05/SC07 & have bricked their units!

Disappointing in an otherwise excellent AVR.

I successfully updated the firmware in my SC-05 two months ago. Granted, it wasn't extraordinarily new firmware (just a few months newer than stock), but it resolved the network dropout issue and made my unit flawless in that operation. If I had access to more recent firmware, you bet that I'd do it again. I love my SC-05.

You can read about it here:

Rob,

Mine is in the shop (since Monday 12-13-10) to get FW updates per Pioneer. The Pioneer tech told me there are 5 FW updates since 2008 but I only need the ones I don’t already have & the factory trained Authorized service rep can determine that. He said there was an update in 2010 so I KNOW I don’t have that one. I also read on a different forum re the SC05 FW updates:

“This fw should also fix the remote power on issue where the unit will not respond to power button from the remote. But do not perform the upgrade by yourself, it will void the warranty.”

The service center has told me the FW update process requires opening up the unit to get to a port & that it cannot be done from the USB port or the Ethernet port. It takes 3 hours. Today they tell me they are 1/2 way done & it is a 4-5 hour process?! Very hard to believe when you have posted screenshots of a successful FW update albeit, only from 2008 & not the more recent ones. I can’t believe that certain FW updates can be done via an ethernet connection w/o disconnecting everything & other FW updates need hours & disassembly to do. Doesn’t make sense. The Pioneer phone rep had also told me that newer Pioneer AVRs have FW updates that are able to be done by the owner.

Hopefully, I will get my SC 05 back today with all updates & will not need to reset any of my settings.

Thanks.
