the 1019 does not have pre-outs except for the Subwoofer (typical) the 03 does and so does the 01.

Callas thanks, Im getting close to my purchases, I have tried to make the best choices for what Im looking for.....I considered the vsx 1019 mostly for cost reason's.

With the vsx 03 I would be able to add more amp with pre outs correct?(where in the specs do you find pre outs)....either way Im going with for NOW Polk Monitor 50's.....so I hope Im not going to be disappointed.

This would be my suggestion, and I hope this is what you do, I think you will find it to be the best decision you can make.

Buy the Amp, whatever you want.... Yamaha 663 or Pioneer, I strongly recommend this Marantz, has pre-outs, its as good as the Pio Elites, actually outputs the watts it states, High end company. This is the receiver I want next!

Take the rest of your budget and get the front 2 or 3 speakers to start. I personally love Energys, but if you want Polk or Yamaha thats up to you. I know it is hard to build slowly, but it will really be the best decision you make, that way you can get the speakers you WANT rather then the ones you had to settled for, and then will want to upgrade in 6 months to a year. Then add a sub next and the surrounds after with your regular paychecks.

JMO. Good luck.

CALLAS.....the energy speakers if I may ask, where is a good site to purchase and why do you prefer them(I know audio is a personalized thing)
plus the marantz am I right in understanding its a better receiever over the pioneer 03 because its wattage is closer as advertised then the pio?

Im so new to all this that without sounding dumb I dont really know what I want other than quality sound and equipment....I hope I can get a quality receiver and speakers without breaking the bank, plus not regretting my purchase 2 weeks later.

I have 1 child and expecting a second in july so I just want to have a nice setup, I have read so much its information over load and total uncertainty.

However guys such as yourself that continue to be informative and insightful even after Im sure reading the same thing in different post/threads from me, so thanks again.

I do understand that a quality HT is great speakers and avr, I just dont know if I need the $600-$800 avr and the $ 250 per speakers I understand the basics better equipment = better sound/performance.

For me right now I dont know if I need to go that far, I question if I could get what Im looking for with something like say the vsx 1019.

Yes it is all subjective, as far as a reciever, ultimately you need to decide what is best for you. I am sure the 1019 would be a solid choice. Pioneer makes very good recievers and if you feel you don't need pre-outs then that is up to you, and an entry level reciever will satisfy, then by all means, you are the one that has to be satisfied at the end of the day. I know people around here don't like Sony recievers, but I am happy with mine. So ultimately you have to decide.

I prefer the energys because they have great mid range, excellent highs and good bass. When I heard the Polks they sounded better then my Sony speakers I had at the time, but nothing compared to the Energys. Also, I felt the highs on the monitor 50s/tsi300s were a little exaggerated, not bright the way klipsch are but the sound was more focused in the highs. Energys sounded more neutral and warm (warm meaning playing to the mids). When I first heard a piano on the energys i thought of being at my little brothers piano recitals back in the day, or when he (rarely) plays at my parents house, how accuate and detailed the piano sounded. It is subjective, but I remember thinking that I have only heard that much detail from my dads $1800 B&W speakers. So I was hooked. Here is the center and the rest you can find here. Or you can get the C-50 surrounds at wwstereo too. I just ordered one to complete my setup.

Whatever you get, I just want you to be happy. you have to live with them so if you can audition, but if you can't....... make sure there is a return policy.
