Default Bryan Singer on the verge to Re-boot Battlestar Galactica

Quote:
Hey,

UPDATE
BRYAN SINGER IS SIGNED ON TO DIRECT A FEATURE FILM, ITS NOT A CONTINUATION.

Quote:
Update by Editor Peter Sciretta: Entertainment Weekly has confirmed this report with Universal Pictures — Bryan Singer is signed on to direct a feature film version of Battlestar Galactica, which isn’t expected to be a continuation of the most recent Ron Moore Sci-Fi channel television show, but instead a complete re-imagining of the original 1970’s series. Original report follows below.

I guess this is a confirmation for:

Jeff Kleist and DoctorD.

It seems that its not a continuation after all.
Hey,

This is for those of you hardcore fans of Battlestar Galactica, Director Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspect, X-Men 1 and 2) on the verge to reboot Battlestar Galactica.

Quote:
According to HitFix, Universal appear to be on the verge of engaging Bryan Singer to produce and also maybe direct a new Battlestar Galactica feature film. Quite a surprise, huh?

You may recall that before the Ron Moore TV series of recent years, Singer was working on a pilot for a reboot of the show himself (some Cylon concept art from their efforts is at the head of this post). That one was halted by in the aftermath of September 11th, 2001 after the Sci-Fi network became sensitive to similarities between the planned plot and real-life tragedy. Would Singer be looking to return to a similar storyline here? I think we can be pretty certain his film won’t be in any way tied into the recent series.

ENJOY.

It won't be anything like the new TV series from what I know. If I recall correctly, the television and theaterical rights are held by different people.

So the movie would be pretty much just like the original.

Bryan Singer could make great movies, I just hate he has done with Superman.

So for this one, I only wish he is going to be able to helm this project.

I series was great - not sure I'm chomping at the bit for more Galactica just yet. Also, would the movie be "the beginning" all over again with them just getting into space?

I think this is too soon after the show.

That's my concern as well. Not that I'm rooting against this, but I wonder if it will do poorly being right on the heels of the SyFy series.

Too soon. Please reboot something that hasn't been rebooted already recently. This is getting old.

Yeah, I don't think Sy Fy channel is done with the series yet either. "The Plan" is scheduled to come out soon and "Carprica" will be starting I believe in January 2010. Plus if I'm not mistaken, during SD Comic-con I thought Ronald Moore indicated that they may go back to the BSG after Caprica was done. But I could have heard wrong.

I think Singer's movies tell a very good story (loved XMEN and VALKYRIE...and Superman Returns was good but missing a lot of action), but I think this is the wrong project for him to be focused on at the moment.

They're gonna have to go the extra mile with this so that the general viewing public knows it has NOTHING to do with the SyFy series.

I thought I read somewhere a while ago that it would be more similar to the late 70's early 80's TV movie version.

Don't get me wrong, I love sci-fi and would be all about seeing this movie. I'm just concerned the timing might be working against it is all.

Still. Optimism comes in the picture. Now I got to be honest about this. I never followed Battlestar series, so you shouldn't consider me a hardcore fan of it. I know much of it thanks to my Best Friend, I have seen an episode here and there, and liked them. For the Hardcore fans you got to see them all, and I will eventually do so. Still the possibility that Bryan Singer may be attached to the project, I would think that it has potentials to be a good one.

Glen Larson holds the movie rights and he did not like the new tv series. they wanted to make a movie based on the new tv show and he said no.

I've never watched Battlestar Galactica either because I don't get SyFy, but I have to agree with others on here that it is too soon. I'm not saying not to do it at all as I think he has a chance to make a very good Battlestar Galactica movie. It's just with the series just ending recently and still more coming from in (The Plan), they would have a harder time getting people to not think of the reboot tv series if they do it now as opposed to waiting a while.
