Question Pioneers BDP-HD1 query.

I've heard that Blue Ray discs will not be region free which is a little disappointing but not unexpected considering Sony do not make region free players. But does anyone know if the new Pioneer is going to be region free or will it require a chip. Most of the previous DVD players (all Pioneer) i have purchased have had region free capability.

As someone who lives in Europe (and already buys most of his DVDs through
Amazon.com) I am really intersted in this as well. I thought there won't be region coding on the Hi-Def Movies. Is this decision already made or still debated?

I just found the thread about the region coding.

I really hope there will be Players without this restriction.

With the new copy protection implemented by the BDA, I'm not sure moding a player to make it region free will be possible anymore. Supposedly, if any modifications are made to a player, current or future discs will be able to detect it and disable the player.

wouldn't this be illegal? after all, it is yours and you are free to do what you want with your posession. it's not like it is stolen or anything.
