Default Some Questions About a Panny 'BD10A Connected to Onkyo '605...

Hello Forum,

My first-generation Panasonic DMP-BD10A BD player is connected via one single HDMI cable to an Onkyo 'SR605 for audio AND video transfer, while a second HDMI cable is taking the video through the 605 to my TV via the receiver's HDMI OUT. Because this first generation player won't bitstream TrueHD signals, I have "TrueHD" set to "PCM" in the player's setup menu, so it will send the decoded multichannel stream to the 605...

I know this has probably been discussed in here before, but when I play BDs that have TrueHD soundtracks, my setup does the HDMI handshake and then my 605 reads "MULTICH" as the listening mode, and "HDMI/PCM/MULTICHANNEL" in smaller letters above it -- is this the correct readout when playing the decoded TrueHD tracks from my Panasonic?

Further, because I have the player set to "PCM" for TrueHD playback, do those settings in the Panasonic's speaker setup menu matter? I know those are normally reserved for analog connections made from the player -- but I was told that the settings here make a difference when DECODED TrueHD tracks are coming out of the player over HDMI, too -- I was advised to keep all these speaker settings IN THE PLAYER set to LARGE, and keep their values set to "0dB". Will leaving these settings in the player ensure that the decoded TrueHD signals are passing to the 605 in order for the receiver to do the bass management, distances, calibrations, etc?

It has also been suggested that because I am sending these PCM signals over HDMI to the 605, not using analog outs, that speaker menu in the Panasonic does not matter -- that it is ONLY for analog connections from this player. Is this true? Because I am going digitally over HDMI -- even though the player is decoding into PCM -- does that speaker setup menu not matter?

If anyone could help clear this confusion a bit, I would appreciate it!

I'm not an expert on what you have, I have the PS3, but from what you doing and seeing, you are correct.

Thank you, Colling.

Anyone else with non-PS3 standalone units familiar with the PCM display to the Onkyos?
